Disney+’s ‘Baymax’ Isn’t the First Television Series Starring the ‘Big Hero 6’ Characters
From going to classes at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology to saving the world, Hiro Hamada’s had a few memorable moments with his plush friend, Baymax. Now, the duo are headed to Disney’s streaming platform for an exclusive television series based on Big Hero 6.
Here’s what we know about Baymax, an original animated series coming to Disney+ in 2022.
Fans first met Hiro and Baymax with the animated movie ‘Big Hero 6’
Hiro is a genius who graduated high school at 14 years old, but all he does is spend time with “bot fights.” It’s thanks to a push from his brother and his plus-sized inflatable robot, Baymax, that Hiro discovers his true potential and his calling, which is helping people.
It even involves cool superhero outfits and help from other students at Tadashi Hamada’s “nerd school.” Fans first met Hiro and his unlikely superhero friends with the 2014 Disney release, Big Hero 6. Since then, fans learned more about this brainiac and his adventures with his huggable healthcare companion.
The characters returned for Disney XD’s series, ‘Big Hero 6: The Series’
Big Hero 6: The Series premiered during 2017 and ran for three seasons, broadcasting on one of Disney’s television networks. The Disney XD series picked up where the 2014 animated film left off, with Hiro adjusting to life as a student at the San Fransokyo Institute of Technology.
Hiro attended school with some of his brother’s best friends, including the fun-loving Honey Lemon, the extremely organized Wasabi, and the always cool and collected GoGo. He’s, of course, always hanging out with Baymax, his healthcare companion.
“We are thrilled to have the opportunity to further develop these characters into a world-class animated series — full of fun, action and the kind of endearing storytelling that only Mark, Bob — and Baymax — can deliver,” Gary Marsh, president and chief creative officer of Disney Channels Worldwide, said in a statement.
Now, a new ‘Big Hero 6’ series is coming to Disney’s streaming platform in 2022, titled ‘Baymax’
Sure, Disney+ has Star Wars original series’ like The Mandalorian and upcoming Marvel originals like The Falcon and The Winter Soldier. Soon, however, the platform will house a new series featuring the characters of Big Hero 6, titled Baymax.
This series, however, unlike Big Hero 6: The Series, will follow everyone’s favorite healthcare companion, Baymax. According to Coming Soon, “The series is created by Don Hall, the Oscar-winning director of Big Hero 6.”
Disney+ also announced a string of television shows inspired by their animated movies, including Tiana, featuring the characters of Princess and the Frog, and Moana featuring the characters from the animated movie of the same title.
