Disney+ Subscribers React to the Premiere of ‘Hamilton’ on Disney’s Streaming Platform
It might’ve been a few months since fans have seen this musical in person. Thanks to Disney’s streaming platform, now fans can have the “best seat in the house” to a performance of the Tony-Award winning production, Hamilton. Here’s what Disney+ subscribers had the say about the premiere of Hamilton on the company’s streaming platform.
‘Hamilton’ finally premiered on Disney+
After years of this Tony Award-winning musical delighting Broadway fans, Hamilton premiered on Disney’s streaming platform on July 3. This adaptation is a live version of the Broadway musical featuring the original cast, including Lin-Manuel Miranda, and the same beloved, Tony award-winning music.
“I’m so proud of how beautifully Tommy Kail has brought Hamilton to the screen. He’s given everyone who watches this film the best seat in the house,” Lin-Manuel Miranda said in a statement, according to Variety. “I’m so grateful to Disney and Disney+ for reimagining and moving up our release to July 4 weekend of this year, in light of the world turning upside down.”
This is the first time the musical premiered on any streaming platform
Not only does this musical come ahead of schedule, just in time for the Fourth of July weekend, but this will be the only time fans can see this production for the remainder of 2020. That’s due to social distancing and the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
This the first time that this musical debuted on the streaming platform, although a number of live and movie adaptations of musicals are available for binge-watching. More musicals are still set to premiere during 2020 but until then, fans shared their love for Hamilton on Twitter, making it a top trending topic.
Fans shared their love for ‘Hamilton’ on social media
Of course, Hamilton fans are pretty “satisfied” with this live-action adaptation. Some took to social media, sharing their love for the actors, the music, and the fact that they can watch it from the comfort of their own homes.
“Happy Hamilton Day! If you really want the full Live On Broadway experience, when Lin-Manuel Miranda first walks on stage as Hamilton, pause the video and stand up and clap for 10 minutes. Then sit down and press play again,” one Twitter user said.
“So much of theatre is inaccessible to most people for a variety of reasons. As a kid, I loved listening to cast albums, but it’s not the same as seeing the show. I’m genuinely excited for people who get to experience the magic of seeing #Hamilton for the first time,” another Twitter user said.
Lin-Manuel Miranda’s stage production of Hamilton is now available on Disney’s streaming platform, as are musicals like The Sound of Music, Annie, and Newsies. To learn more about Disney+ and to subscribe, visit their website.
