Is Disney Plus’ ‘The Mandalorian’ About Boba Fett? Inside the Timeline of This Star Wars Series

It’s time to go back into the Star Wars universe with a new cast and crew. Which characters, exactly, are in Disney Plus’ latest series, The Mandalorian? Is the title character related to other bounty hunters, like Boba Fett and Jango Fett? Here’s what we know about the Disney Plus exclusive, entitled The Mandalorian.

Is Boba Fett in the Star Wars series, ‘The Mandalorian’?

If you’re a true Star Wars fan, you remember the infamous bounty hunter Boba Fett from The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. During the Attack of the Clones episode of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, fans learned that the character is actually a clone from the bounty hunter, Jango Fett. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, cast and crew members of this series discussed the history of these Star Wars characters.

“Boba Fett is a clone, according to Attack of the Clones, and by asking [creator George Lucas], he would say Boba Fett is not Mandalorian, not born on Mandalore. He’s more of a person indoctrinated into it, into the way of life, and gets a hold of the armor,” director Dave Filoni said.

“Our guy is operating in a much more unforgiving landscape,” Director John Favreau explained. “A place where survival is difficult enough, let alone flourishing in that atmosphere and the politics have dissolved. It’s ‘might is right.’ And how does somebody earn a living when there’s no structure to society anymore and everything is collapsing in on itself? How do you work your way through the world?”

‘The Mandalorian’ takes place after the fall of the Empire, but before ‘The Force Awakens’ and the First Order

Presumably, characters like Boba Fett and Jango Fett will not appear in this Star Wars series. However, other bounty hunters and droids will be introduced in this darker story. The title character, the Mandalorian, is seen in the trailer cutting someone in half with a door. Pretty exciting stuff.

However, the Mandalorian is unrelated to these two bounty hunters and often acts as a lone gunfighter. During an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Pedro Pascal, who portrays the title character, commented on the differences between him and Boba Fett.

“Ultimately he wants to do the right thing,” Pedro Pascal said. “But his duties could very much be in conflict with his destiny and doing the right thing has many faces. It can be a very windy road.”
