Disney+: The One Person Fans Don’t Want to See as She-Hulk

Following the news that She-Hulkthe witty and confident Jennifer Walters — would be coming to the MCU, Marvel enthusiasts began drafting their dream casts. While most Marvel fans stand behind choices like Alison Brie (Glow, Mad Men), Betty Gilpin (Glow, The Hunt, Nurse Jackie), and Gwendoline Christie (Game of Thrones), one possible choice has fans worried.

While it’s important that the She-Hulk actress retains the physicality inherent to the role and lives up to the physical demands the performance will undoubtedly elicit, taking on the character’s intelligence and witty sense of humor is, arguably, more important. While Stephanie Beatriz is at the top of many fan lists for the role, Marvel is reportedly eyeing someone else.

According to We Got This Covered, Marvel Studios is eyeing American professional wrester-turned-sometimes-actress Ronda Rousey for the Disney+ series. A few weeks back, the outlet reported that Ronda Rousey is on Marvel’s shortlist.

The same insider who informed the publication that Moon Knight and Ms. Marvel were on the horizon (before Disney announced both projects) provided the scroop, so it could be quite a credible leak. However, eyeing does not mean confirming and, if fans have anything to do with the selection, Ronda Rousey may not find herself in the role.

What MCU fans have to say about Ronda Rousey as She-Hulk in the Disney+ series

When browsing through various Reddit forums concerning who fans would like to see as She-Hulk and how they feel about the idea of Ronda Rousey in the role, one truth becomes self-evident: Rousey is not favored. One MCU fan stated:

Get an actual actress and have her bulk up. Rousey can’t act for sh*t, or at least has never been given any good material so we can’t really gauge her talent.

While the above proclamation is quite harsh, it seems to be the overwhelming consensus surrounding Ronda Rousey’s potential casting: she is a wrestler who already has the physicality, but does not possess the acting prowess. Most argue that, instead of taking Rousey and teaching her to act, choose a better actress and get her to bulk up (as has been Marvel’s routine in the past). One Reddit user, speaking on Rousey, stated:

What makes you think she’s a good actress? Or can carry a movie?

I know reddit is high on this woman right now, but frankly this is pretty ridiculous

Also, isn’t this like saying we should get a John Cena to play the hulk cos he’s bulked up?

With the level of disdain surrounding this idea, pumping out from Reddit and various other social media platforms, Marvel Studios may go in a different direction, unless they decide to give Rousey some acting lessons, and prove all the haters wrong. Dave Bautista reportedly received acting lessons for Guardians of the Galaxy and wound up excelling in the role.

While Ronda Rousey may not be fans’ first choice, Marvel tends to make very strategic and well-planned decisions; if she winds up in the role, those making the choice will have good reasons for selecting her (ones many fans may not see).
