Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Could Be the First Film to Premiere in Theaters During Summer 2020

Disney is breaking another record. This time, the theatrical premiere of their live-action Mulan adaptation may be the first movie returning to cinemas during summer 2020. Here’s what we know about this upcoming film, its premiere date, and the updated release dates of movies like Tenet.

Disney postponed the premiere on their live-action ‘Mulan’ adaptation

This loyal, brave, and true warrior earned her own Disney live-action adaptation. Fans shared their excitement for the premiere of this version of Mulan. However, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic and stay-at-home orders, this global cinematic debut of this film has since been postponed.

“Making this film has been one of the most satisfying and exhilarating experiences of my entire career, and I’ve been so fortunate to be on this journey with some of the best cast and crew in the business – people who truly embody the attributes of loyal, brave, and true,” Niki Caro said in a statement via Instagram

“We are so excited to share this film with the world, but given the current ever-shifting circumstances we are all experiencing, unfortunately, we have to postpone the worldwide release of Mulan for now,” she continued. “Our hearts are with everyone the world over who is affected by this virus, and we hope that Mulan’s fighting spirit will continue to inspire those who are working so hard to keep us all safe.”

In April, Disney released a potential premiere date of Mulan

Mulan was originally set to premiere on March 27. However, Disney postponed the release date for later until summer until 2020. Although some movies didn’t officially get new dates right away, including Marvel’s Black Widow, fans learned that Mulan earned a new release date on July 24.

The company could be looking to premiere this movie around the same time as its theme parks open. The four main parks in Walt Disney World will all be open on July 15, while Disneyland reopens on July 17. This would just be a few days prior to Mulan’s cinematic debut.

Disney’s Jungle Cruise, a movie starring Dwanye “The Rock” Johnson and Emily Blunt, is the next movie in Disney’s lineup. According to WDW News Today, this adventure film premieres on July 30. That date is also subject to change.

‘Tenet’ was originally set to be the first movie debuting in theaters this summer

Disney’s Mulan premieres is currently set to premiere in theaters on July 24. However, with the first movie set for its theatrical release in July, Tenet, pushed their date back to July 31, there’s a chance Disney could delay Mulan again. That’s especially true if cinemas aren’t open in time.
