When it comes to juggling business ventures, family, and still keeping it totally real with the public, we can all depend on Chip and Joanna Gaines. Since the first season of Fixer Upper to after they’ve concluded the show, we’ve kept up with the Gaines family religiously to see what they’re going to do next. And one of their biggest announcements came early on in 2018 when they shared with the world they were expecting their fifth child.

Now, the baby, Crew, is integrated deeply into the Gaines clan. But how do Joanna and Chip’s other four kids feel about having a new kid in the house? Here are the details regarding their new life.

There’s a significant age gap between Crew and the other Gaines kids

While Crew is a welcome addition to the Gaines family, Joanna has noted in the past that she was totally shocked to be pregnant again. Today reports in The Magnolia Journal, the star got candid about having a baby at 40. She notes that while the baby was a surprise, her pregnancy came at the perfect time, so she completely embraced it (though it did force her to slow down). And she also said that because the rest of her kids “were born in such quick succession” many years before Crew, it all felt like “a bit of a blur.”

So, how old are the other Gaines kids in comparison? Drake is the oldest, and he’s 13. The next one down the line is Ella Rose, who’s 11, followed by Drake, 10, and Emmie, who’s 8. Crew isn’t even a year old yet, which puts him at an eight year difference between him and the second-youngest Gaines child.

The children reportedly love holding Crew

It can be difficult for some kids to adjust to having a new baby in the house — especially if the pregnancy is unexpected. But it seems the Gaines clan absolutely loves their little brother. County Living notes at the latest Silobration (their annual fall festival at the silos), Chip and Joanna discussed how much their other kids love baby Crew. And Joanna told an adorable story that touched everyone’s hearts.

“We never get to carry the baby because from the time I wake up, they get in line. Drake’s number one, Ella’s number two —they fight over who gets to hold him all morning, all night. It’s so sweet,” she told Silobration goers. And she also noted that despite the craziness of having a new baby around, the last year had been a time of restoration for her and the whole family.

Joanna says Crew has given her a ‘second wind’

It’s easy to get lost in project after project, especially when you’re a Gaines. But Joanna notes that Crew has been the breath of fresh air that she absolutely needed. Not only has the new baby given her an opportunity to take lifer slower and enjoy the simple things with her family, but he’s also given her an “extra kick in my step,” People reports she said.

In Joanna’s words, “It woke me up a little bit. Life was doing its thing, and this baby — typically you feel tired, but this baby, he’s just like my second wind.” And it seems that extra energy has been put to good use, as she was able to release a new design book after he was born that she now calls her “life’s work.”

Will they try for another baby?

Fans were sure Crew would be the newest and final member of the Gaines family — but could Chip and Joanna possibly try for another? Today reports Chip said they can’t have an odd number of children, and they’d have to even it out by having just one more. “I’m particular about the only child thing,” he said. “Don’t be surprised if No. 6 is in the cards!”

As for Joanna, she’s also commented on the idea of having another baby. She said that she actually loves “the labor part” since that’s when you get to meet the little one. “It’s so much fun. I want to do it again.”
