‘Counting On’ Fans Can’t Tell If Joy Duggar and Austin Forsyth Actually Get Along
To the Duggars, marriage is sacred. Once two people tie the knot, there is not untying it. Rather, they work through any serious problems with God’s help. When Josh Duggar’s sexual abuse and cheating scandals broke, religion and marriage counseling helped his family through it. And if those two didn’t divorce, it seems none of the Duggars ever will — including Joy Duggar and her husband, Austin Forsyth. Although the two appear to get along, fans actually can’t tell if that’s the case.
Duggar and Forsyth wed back in 2017
Unlike most of the Duggar couples, these two actually knew each other for nearly 15 years before they officially began courting. Forsyth’s family moved to Duggar’s Arkansas town after his parents decided they wanted to join the same church the Duggars belong to. That was the first time Duggar spotted him, and she grew feelings for him before he ever pursued a courtship with her (Forsyth is four years older than Duggar). Finally, when Duggar was a late teenager, Forsyth began to see her in a different light and asked Jim Bob Duggar if he could court his daughter. Duggar’s father said yes, and the two started courting in 2016 and wed in 2017. Nine months later, they welcomed their first child. The two were pregnant once more but recently announced a miscarriage.
People have wondered if Forsyth is too controlling over Duggar — but it could just be their lifestyle
Ever since the couple got married, some Counting On fans have theorized that Forsyth might be too controlling over Duggar. Duggar is quite a few years younger than him, and traditionally, the Duggar women can be a bit submissive to their husbands. (Michelle Duggar once suggested a woman should never turn down her husband’s need for sex.) Someone close to the Duggar family once said that a relative of Joy’s called Forsyth too controlling and said he was immature and arrogant. Some also feel that when the two interact on their show, it seems that Forsyth is the only one who makes final decisions between them.
It’s important to note that the Duggars live their lives in a way where the women tend to take care of the children while the men make the money. This means that Forsyth isn’t necessarily too controlling over Duggar; he might just be the overall decision maker between the two of them.
Some ‘Counting On’ fans think the two don’t actually get along — but others disagreed
Counting On fans have been conflicted about whether the couple actually gets along behind the scenes. One original poster’s comment on Reddit suggested that Forsyth took advantage of Duggar’s naivety. The poster wrote that they got “dark vibes” from Forsyth, suggesting he doesn’t treat Duggar well. Of those who voted on the post, 79% agreed with the original poster’s statement.
However, not everyone thought the post was accurate. Some suggest that Forsyth’s personality might be on the cold side, but it doesn’t necessarily mean he isn’t good to Duggar. “From what I’ve gathered he’s just very serious,” one user wrote, adding that Forsyth might be very sweet to Duggar when the two are alone together. Others agreed, suggesting that he seems to be on the quieter side but that it doesn’t indicate he has a bad relationship with Duggar.
Despite fans’ opinions, the two seem to be happily married
Fans can say what they want, but there is nothing specific to indicate that Duggar and Forsyth aren’t happily married. They seem very in love on social media, and Duggar always gives him shout outs for being a great husband. The two recently went through a heartbreaking miscarriage, and though the event was traumatic, it will likely only bring them closer.
