Do Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag From ‘The Hills’ Still Hate Each Other?

It’s been nearly a decade since The Hills ended, an MTV series that chronicled the lives of several young women as they navigated Los Angeles together. We got to get a glimpse into their personal and professional lives as many of them went from Laguna Beach, California, to big city life. And, of course, viewers were captured by the drama along the way.

Now, The Hills is slated for a reboot coming in 2019 — and it has fans recalling one iconic feud that seemingly ruined a friendship. While Lauren Conrad and Heidi Montag were close for multiple seasons of the show, their relationship came to a screeching halt thanks to one huge rumor. Do they still hate each other? Here’s what we gathered.

First, Lauren never approved of Heidi’s relationship with Spencer

When The Hills first began, we remember how tight Lauren and Heidi’s friendship was. Broadly reminds us the two roomed together in West Hollywood and were practically inseparable. Unfortunately, their friendship was tested when Heidi started dating Spencer Pratt. Spencer and Lauren never got along, and Lauren never liked the idea of him dating her best friend. She even went so far as to tell Heidi that she shouldn’t date him, but by the end of Season 2, Heidi was moving in with Spencer — and thus was the beginning of the end of the Lauren-Heidi friendship.

Nowadays, we know Heidi and Spencer are married and even have a child together. And Spencer threw major shade at Lauren multiple times after The Hills finished filming, proving their feud is far from over.

A rumor spread that Lauren and her ex, Jason Wahler, made a sex tape

We saw Heidi and Lauren’s friendship tested at the end of the second season of The Hills, but things really blew up a week before the Season 3 premiere. E! News reports in 2007, tabloids reported that Lauren made a sex tape with her ex from Laguna Beach, Jason Wahler. Lauren immediately denied the rumors on her website. “Jason and I are both shocked and hurt that people would say such horrible things about us. I can’t believe that somebody would go to such great lengths to try to damage my reputation,” she wrote.

Lauren then went on to say that she was shocked a close friend of hers — who we all believe is Heidi — didn’t call or text her after the rumors circulated. And once the Season 3 premiere of the show aired, we saw the whole situation escalate dramatically. Lauren blamed the rumors on Heidi and Spencer and infamously shouted, “You know what you did!” at Heidi while they were both at a club.

Spencer allegedly admitted to spreading the lies

Heidi seemed shocked that Lauren would accuse her of spreading rumors, but it appears that Lauren may not have been too far off with her accusations. E! News reports back in 2009, Lauren led a panel where the question of the sex tape rumor was brought up once again. Lauren reaffirmed that Spencer spread the lies, stating, “We actually have it on tape. [Spencer] takes responsibility and apologizes for it.”

Not only that, but E! News explains Spencer admitted himself that he was the one who leaked the information about the tape, which he has said multiple times actually does exist. But he’s not afraid to defend himself, either. “She tried to destroy us,” he said. “If you want to throw missiles, I’m throwing a nuke. This is how I operate.”

Lauren and Heidi still don’t talk

Are Lauren and Heidi past their feud? It seems highly unlikely that they are. While Lauren did attend Spencer and Heidi’s wedding, they reportedly haven’t talked much since. As Heidi told Buzzfeed back in 2016, “The last time I spoke to Lauren was a few years ago. Like two or so. We kind of were talking a little and then we both were kind of like, ‘We’re not friends.’ It’s kind of awkward.”

Heidi would be willing to reconcile further with Lauren, however. She told People, “I’d be willing to move forward and put things behind us. We would never be the way that we were again, but it would be fun to maybe catch up one day and be mature and be like, ‘Hey that was crazy, I wish you the best,’ type-of-thing.” Unfortunately, Heidi doesn’t think that will ever actually happen. “But I don’t think she would be ever ready for that,” she added. So far, Lauren has made no comment.
