Do Prince William and Meghan Markle Get Along?

From the time she was formally introduced to the royal family in 2017, it seemed like Duchess Meghan Markle got along with everyone. From Queen Elizabeth II to her in-laws, Duchess Camilla Parker Bowles, and Prince Charles, the former actress charmed everyone who crossed her path. Now, we’re learning that the Los Angeles native isn’t quite fitting in as seamlessly with the royal family as we first thought.

From her fast-paced schedule and 5:00 am wake up calls, to her and Prince Harry’s choice to move away from Kensington Palace it looks like there might be an underlying royal rift between the Sussexes and the Cambridges. Though they seem poised and polished in front of the cameras, we’re not quite sure, Prince William and Meghan Markle actually get along.

A fall out at Christmas

In an unprecedented move over the Christmas holiday in 2017, Queen Elizabeth II invited the Duchess of Sussex to spend the holidays with the royal family. Since Markle was only engaged to Prince Harry at the time, many people were taken aback by the queen’s bold invitation. In fact, though she dated Prince William for several years before they tied the knot, Duchess Kate Middleton was only able to attend Royal Christmas Festivities after she was married.

Since Markle was able to get on the fast-track to royal life, it caused some tension between Prince Harry and his older brother, Prince William. Katie Nicholl reported in Vanity Fair, “Harry felt William wasn’t rolling out the red carpet for Meghan and told him so/ They had a bit of a fall out, which was only resolved when [their dad Prince] Charles stepped in and asked William to make an effort. That’s when the Cambridges invited the Sussexes to spend Christmas with them.”

Do Prince William and Meghan Markle get along?

Though parents-to-be Prince Harry and Meghan Markle had initially planned to move next door to the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, the apartment they wanted is no longer available, which has been a bit of a relief to both couples.  Though Prince William doesn’t seem to have any issues with Markle herself, he and his brother who have always gotten along are currently going through some growing pains.

A royal insider told The Daily Mail, “Meghan is quite opinionated and an acquired taste.” They’ve also said, “Harry has become dictatorial in his demands that Meghan be given whatever she wants, and this has caused problems between the brothers.” Since Markle literally gave up her entire career and her life as she knew it, we could see why her husband would want her to be as happy as possible.  Since Prince William will also be king one day, the red-headed prince is also trying to define himself away from the shadow of his brother.

The brothers also recently announced that they will have separate courts, instead of a joint office as they have in the past and the Sussexes are set to move out of Kensington Palace and to the massive Frogmore Cottage, outside of London before the birth of their baby.

As for the ladies. Markle and Duchess Kate Middleton don’t seem to have any issues with one another either; they are just content to walk to different paths. A source told The Sun, “Kate and Meghan are very different people, and they don’t have a lot in common, but they have made an effort to get along. Any issues are between the brothers.”
