This Is Us is definitely one of those shows that can lead to theories given the story is told out of order. For a time fans were coming up with theories on how Jack dies before it was eventually revealed. It turns out there are more things that might already be set in stone for the show like how it ends. But does the cast know how? Here is everything you need to know.

Justin Hartley said the show is six or seven shows ahead of the audience

Justin Hartley, who plays Kevin Pearson, gave an interesting interview where he revealed just how much he knows about what will happen in the show.

“We’ll know when the season starts airing, we’re six, seven shows down the road, so we’re way ahead of the audience and then the audience kind of catches up,” he told E! News. Since this is network television Hartley probably means “episodes” by “shows” so they are filming seven episodes ahead of when the show is airing.

Hartley kind of knows how the series ends

He also revealed in the same interview that he knows how This Is Us will end. “I like the whole season,” continued Hartley. “I kind of know how the series ends. I hope it doesn’t end soon but I kind of know how the series ends, isn’t that something?” He then added, “Everyone kind of knows how the series ends.”

Mandy Moore previously revealed that the cast is contracted to stay until after Season 7

So there is an ending already set in place for the show. Mandy Moore also revealed how long the cast is contractually obligated to the show when asked when it will end.

You would have to ask [creator and executive producer] Dan Fogelman,” Moore told Newsweek. “We are all contractually obligated to do seven seasons, so we are starting three now. We have some time.”

That’s not exactly unique when it comes to television. Typically a good run for a show is seven seasons so that tends to be the time given for new shows. That’s hoping that the show makes it and lasts that long instead of getting canceled.

She also said that the ending has already been filmed

It would make sense that the cast knows the ending because they already filmed it. Also, since This Is Us jumps around in timelines they probably would need to film with the younger cast if they would be involved in it. Mandy Moore was asked if they already filmed the ending on Jimmy Kimmel Live! she answered, “Yes, we have.”

Of course, there is a lot of pressure when it comes to ending a good show. The good thing is that Moore approves of the ending. “I think the ending will be very satisfying for people,” she said. “I think it’s very true to what the show evokes from all of us.”

She also explained, “I think just the nature of our show and the trajectory is that … you know, people are certain ages now, and perhaps they’re just going to keep getting older. So [we’re] capturing content in the can now.”

Chances are the cast will really try to avoid giving any hints or spoilers about how This Is Us will end. But who knows? Maybe one day they will slip up.
