Do You Really Want Samuel L. Jackson In Your House 24/7?

Samuel L. Jackson is a face that many people are familiar with on the big screen. He has appeared in numerous successful movies such as Pulp Fiction (1994), Snakes on a Plane (2006), Django Unchained (2012), Kingsman (2014), and Kong: Skull Island (2017).

For fans who can’t get enough of the 70-year-old actor, they will soon get to have more of Jackson in their daily life, especially if they are an avid user of Amazon’s Alexa.

On September 25, Amazon announced several updates to its virtual assistant, Alexa. One update that has caught people’s attention is the ability to add Samuel L. Jackson’s voice to their device.

Set to launch later this year, this update will allow users to do many things that they currently can do with Alexa, though this time Samuel L. Jackson’s voice will respond to them. They can ask “Jackson” to play music, make phone calls, set alarms, give weather reports, tell jokes, and more. They reportedly can also ask for details about the actor himself.

However, there are some things Jackson will not be able to do like Alexa, such as helping with shopping and making lists.

It has been reported that Amazon will use neural text-to-speech technology to analyze and replicate Jackson’s voice instead of having him record lines.

There are also two versions available: “clean” and “explicit.” Users will be able to select which version they would like to use when they set up the voice with Alexa.

Fans seem excited about getting to hear Samuel L. Jackson’s voice

While the thought of having Jackson in one’s house all the time can seem unsettling to some people, many fans seem to be quite excited about the update.

One person commented on Twitter: “If this is true (and if he says ‘motherf**er’ a lot) I will set up the Dot I received as a gift that I still have sitting in a drawer somewhere!”

A lot of fans are also looking forward to using the “explicit” version to hear Jackson say that cuss word, which he has become known for over the years. Jackson has reportedly said “motherf**er” over 170 times in 27 movies, with his most famous usage of it being in Pulp Fiction.

“I’m def changing mine!” another person shared. “I need him to cuss me out in the morning til I get out of bed.”

This update has also made some people consider getting an Amazon virtual assistant for their home. “I said I’d never get one but I’m going to have to give this some serious thought,” one Twitter user said.

What other celebrities will be voices for Alexa?

Currently, there are several personalities that users can enable on Alexa, including Shakespeare and Mark Twain — both of which are voiced by professional impersonators. Samuel L. Jackson is reportedly the first of several celebrity voices that will come in the future.

Amazon has not revealed which other celebrity voices are in the works, though the company is reportedly launching some of them next year.

Fans have no shortage of celebrities they would like to hear on their Alexa devices, however. Popular requests for Amazon include Morgan Freeman, Paul Bettany, and Tom Hiddleston.

Some people have even come up with a creative way for Alexa to improve even more in the future. Instead of having different voices, a fan has suggested that they could be grouped into categories: “I forecast different style of [voiceover] packages with a wide variety of stars: comedic, dramatic, horror, sci-fi – boundless opportunities.”
