Does Ariana Grande’s New Song “Boyfriend” Actually Give Fans Insight Into Her Love Life?
Ariana Grande’s new single “Boyfriend” is finally here and the song is already everyone’s favorite summer jam.
Grande dropped the hit with the pop duo, Social House, this past weekend and many of us can’t even deny having it on repeat since its release.
In the song, Ariana Grande talks about the struggles of labeling a relationship and fully giving your heart to another person.
Though it is enjoyable to listen to, many of us have been digging deeper into the lyrics and are coming to the realization that this song might actually be referencing Ariana Grande’s past and current love life.
Grande’s song explains the nature of a complicated relationship
For anyone who has seen or heard Ariana Grande’s new hit song “Boyfriend” already knows what the song is all about.
The song lyrically captures that inticing but simultaneously anxiety-ridden in-between stage of casually dating someone and making your relationship official.
To showcase that, the music video stars Grande and Social House’s, Michael “Mikey” Foster, whose characters are in a bit of a complicated relationship and can’t handle one another flirting with other people.
Though the song speaks to a ton of people who have been faced with the ups and downs of dating someone casually, fans can’t help but wonder if Ariana Grande drew from her own experiences when writing this summer hit?
A few days before releasing “Boyfriend,” Grande took to Twitter to fully explain the concept of the song and shine a light on the inspiration behind it.
“Well, I feel like this song captures a common theme in the lives of so many people I know!” she tweeted. “People want to feel love but don’t want to define their relationship and have trouble fully committing or trusting or allowing themselves to fully love someone. Even [though] they want to.”
Grande then went on to explain that while this song is not about anyone specific, it still showcases a situation many people find themselves in at least once in their lives.
Grande wrote in a second tweet, “wanted to make something uplifting that captures that feeling of being afraid to take the leap and trust, being afraid of being hurt or feeling like you won’t be enough for that person but also how it feels to have a crippling crush on someone.”
Was Ariana Grande recently faced with a complicated relationship?
After sharing her tweets, fans began to wonder if Ariana Grande has been faced with the highs and lows of a complicated relationship?
While Grande has been open about her desire to put off dating for a while, she has made it clear that relationships aren’t her main focus at the moment.
With the death of her ex, Mac Miller, followed by splitting from her fiancé Pete Davidson all within the course of a month, complicated relationships was something many of us assumed Grande was avoiding at all costs.
Now that is has been confirmed that Grande and Mikey” Foster are dating, was “Boyfriend” modeled after their newfound romance?
Seeing as though Foster stars in the music video alongside Grande, many can’t help but speculate that these two were faced with some complications before making their relationship official.
Many of us can assume that before Grande and Foster were exclusive, they were faced with the struggle of putting a label on their relationship.
In the lyrics of the song, Grande explains how she knows the two aren’t officially “boyfriend” and “girlfriend.” While they refuse to define their relationship, their feelings for each other are still strong.
“You ain’t my boyfriend/and I ain’t your girlfriend/but you don’t want me to see nobody else/ and I don’t want you to see nobody/but you ain’t my boyfriend/and I ain’t your girlfriend but you don’t want me to touch nobody else/baby we ain’t gotta tell nobody,” she sings.
Though we might not ever find of if our speculations are, in fact, true, we now know that Ariana Grande has possibly been faced with the same relationship struggles as some of us and that alone makes fans love her even more.
