Does ‘Dance Moms’ Abby Lee Miller Still Have Cancer?
Back in 2011, reality TV fans were obsessed with Dance Moms, the show that chronicled the lives of young dancers who were attending the Abby Lee Dance Company. And while fans were interested in taking a glimpse into the world of competitive dance, they were even more fascinated by Abby Lee Miller. Under her tutelage, the little dancers were developing their skills to become great — but we also can’t forget the fights, feuds, and drama Miller brought along with her.
Miller had a few tough years, and she even chose to leave Dance Moms due to legal battles and issues with production. Fans also know she was diagnosed with cancer back in April 2018. Does she still have the disease? Here’s what we know.
Miller was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma a month after leaving prison

So much gratitude and love for those who listened, those who looked deeper and those who leapt into action. So much more I wish I could say……about how quickly your life can change at the hands of others. Thanks for ❤️ #abbyleemiller #abbylee #aldc #aldcla #aldcalways #dancemoms #iwilldance
We remember when Miller was deeply involved in a scandal involving bankruptcy fraud years ago. The disgraced star was set to spend 366 days in jail and pay up to $160,000 because of the fraud, Us Weekly reminds us. And while she managed to go through with her sentence and get out earlier than expected, she was slammed with even more unfortunate news in April 2018. E! News reports she was diagnosed with a form of non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma after going in for spinal surgery.
Miller initially thought she had a mass near her spine that was giving her pain and other issues, and doctors also believed she had a spinal infection that needed surgery. It was then that medical professionals realized it was actually cancer that was plaguing Miller. On her Instagram, she reflected on the diagnosis. “So much gratitude and love for those who listened, those who looked deeper and those who leapt into action. So much more I wish I could say……about how quickly your life can change at the hands of others,” she wrote.
She has gone through at least 9 rounds of chemotherapy
Miller may have been down on her luck when she was first diagnosed with cancer, but she’s since been fighting hard to beat the disease and make a full recovery. In one of her latest posts on Instagram about her illness, she addressed how many rounds of chemotherapy she had already been through. “Just some silliness while I’m back in for my next to last round of Chemo! Hallelujah! 9 down 1 to go!” she wrote in October 2018.
The disease has evidently also caused Miller to lose a ton of weight — and she seems unable to get around without the assistance of a wheelchair, too. But that hasn’t stopped her from fighting and attending events. In December 2018, Extra reports she attended the National Film and Television Awards, and she appears to be in higher spirits than she had been when she was first diagnosed.
She’s still battling cancer but is returning to Dance Moms
Unfortunately, it appears Miller is still fighting her cancer battle. With that said, she’s not waiting around to start on new endeavors — and her posts on Instagram have filled her followers in on what she hopes to accomplish in 2019. Miller announced on her Instagram that she’s returning to Dance Moms, and we already got a photo of her smiling while filming in her dance company’s studio, too.
E! News reports she’s also filming a documentary about her non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma diagnosis. The film will follow her diagnosis, treatment, and life since living with the disease. Meanwhile, she’s still continuing with cancer treatments. As one source told the publication, “She still can’t walk and had to do that one last round of chemo for precaution per her doctors. She is done with the chemo though and she had some tumors in her back removed but there are some still there. She is trying to get through her treatment.”
