In a recent interview, Jamil shares why she calls out famous celebrities and why she doesn’t feel bad at all for doing so.

Jameel is against celebrities promoting weight loss

It is no question that Jameel Jamil is not a fan when it comes to celebrities promoting weight loss on their social media accounts.

The actress has made headlines in the past for publicly calling out well-known celebrities for partnering with weight loss companies and advertising “Flat Tummy” beverages to their millions followers.

In the past, Jamil has slammed celebrities such as Iggy Azalea, Cardi B, and most recently Khloe Kardashian.

Back in March, the actress vocalized her disdain for Kardashian after seeing the reality star promote Flat Tummy Co’s meal replacement shakes on her Instagram page.

Jameela Jamil took to the comments under Khloe’s Instagram photo and wrote, “If you’re too irresponsible to: a) own up to the fact that you have a personal trainer, nutritionist, probable chef, and a surgeon to achieve your aesthetic, rather than this laxative product… And b) tell them the side effects of this NON-FDA approved product, that most doctors are saying aren’t healthy … then I guess I have to.”

She then went onto list the side effects of the weight loss beverage that she claimed includes, “cramping, stomach pains, diarrhea and dehydration.”

Jameela has faced backlash for her comments but has explained that she is just looking to open the eyes of the celebrities she calls out.

She not canceling those celebrities

While interviewing with Charlamagne tha God on the most recent episode of Emerging Hollywood via The Hollywood Reporter, Jameela Jamil revealed why she calls out celebrities on social media.

According to Jamil, she doesn’t do it to be spiteful, instead, she does it to urge celebrities to make a change and show how their weight loss ads are encouraging young girls to take part in it.

“I don’t cancel the Kardashians, or Iggy Azalea or Cardi B. I’m not cancelling them, I’m reprimanding them. It’s fine to call someone out. You’re offering them the opportunity of changing,” she says.

Jameela Jamil then brings up her own struggles with body image and shares how beauty standards in the media can really affect young women.

“Oppressive beauty standards,” as Jamil calls them, affected her as a child. “I was fully anorexic by the time I was about thirteen. I wasn’t menstruating. My body was letting me know that I was dying from the inside,” she explains.

According to Jameela Jamil, she feels as though it is her duty to rally against those who promote weight loss in unconventional ways and will continue to do so until she sees a change.

“I think entertainment is such a beautiful and important thing to do. I’ve been on the receiving end of how much it can save your life when you’re down,” the actress said. “But also, the entertainment industry has some rotten parts that we’re trying to slowly lift out. I have to do something to rally against it, otherwise, I feel like I’m a traitor to women and to young people.”
