Does Kate Middleton Actually Get Along With Her Sister, Pippa?
Thanks to the adorable photos of her children and the magical love story she has with Prince William, Kate Middleton is definitely one of the public’s favorite royals. She’s elegant, kind, and a hardworking royal for the queen — and she doesn’t shy from the public eye, either. We love watching what the royal couple are up to day in and day out.
Before Kate married William, we often wonder what her life was like before royalty. And though we get glimpses into her relationship with her sister, Pippa, the question remains: Are they really as close as everyone thinks?
The two may have had clashing personalities in their youth
With just a year and a half separating them, it’s no surprise that Pippa and Kate spent their younger years playing sports together and surrounding themselves in similar friend circles. But of course, like all siblings, there were surely differences in their personality that were evident early on. While Kate may take over the spotlight nowadays since she’s a part of the royal family, an insider told CelebsNow that the opposite was true when Kate and Pippa were kids.
“Pippa was always more liked at school than Kate because she was very outgoing while Kate was more of a loner,” the insider said. Kate would reportedly even reach out to her little sister for dating advice, as Pippa would attract more dates than Kate.
Pippa and Kate had a thriving social life together after college
Kate and William dated in their early 20s — but there was a time when the two broke up. Parade notes Kate became more “sociable and vibrant” as a newly single woman at 25 — and that’s also when Pippa joined her in London to share a flat. The publication explains the two would attend a large number of social events and would prepare by getting spray tans and their hair done. While Kate was at the point where she was starting to think about a more “stable and mature” lifestyle, she was also ready to hit the town with Pippa to celebrate her single status.
William and Kate got back together, of course. But at the time, Pippa was ready to cheer her sister up at a moment’s notice.
Pippa has spoken in the past about the tight family bond the Middletons have
One Kate became a royal, her relationship with her own commoner family certainly shifted — but Pippa notes their family has a bond that can never be broken. E! News reports in an interview with Matt Lauer, Pippa notes that her relationship with her sister never changed even after she wed and had her first child, Prince George. “I mean, obviously she has pressures that she’s taken on and things. But we spend a lot of time together. We still do a lot together as a family,” Pippa noted.
While having an ultra-famous sister in the spotlight probably isn’t always easy for the Middleton family, Kate’s down-to-earth personality certainly helps her brother, sister, and parents stay super close. As Pippa said, “And I think that’s really the heart for all of us is having a really close family that we can sort of be normal with each other, treat each other normally.”
Pippa says their relationship is very ‘normal’ and ‘sisterly’
When it comes to the bond that’s just between Kate and her sister, Pippa maintains that after all is said and done, they have a “normal, sisterly relationship,” E! News reports she said in an interview. “We’re very close. And, you know, we support each other and get each other’s opinions and things,” she added.
While Kate may not have much time on her hands with her three kids and royal duties (and now Pippa has a child of her own, too), the two still frequently find time to visit each other’s families. Express mentions the two were even pregnant at the same time, which certainly strengthened their bond. There’s no doubt Kate helped Pippa with her first pregnancy, too, since she had already had two children of her own when Pippa was pregnant with her first.
