Does Kris Humphries Regret Marrying Kim Kardashian?
Kris Humphries revealed in a recent essay that he never wanted to be “that guy.” If you know anything about pop culture, you know exactly what Humphries is referring to.
Humphries who was once a star high school athlete and successful NBA player isn’t known for his athletic ability or his contribution to his community. Instead, the name Kris Humphries will forever be associated with Kim Kardashian.
Humphries knew he always wanted to be an NBA star
From the time he was a young boy, Humphries never had any problems with sports. He was good and he knew it. He admits that a lot of the time he was a cocky little punk.
The NBA player says that he was a natural at swimming. He “smoked” Phelps, “smoked” Lochte. He quite simply was a beast in the water. Humphries credits much of his success to spending so much time in the lake near his house.
But when he turned 13, a light switched on. Humphries went to a Chicago Bulls game and he immediately knew he wanted to be an NBA star. The roar of the crowd and the love for Michael Jordan was enough to make Humphries know this is what he wanted to do.
He was drafted by the Utah Jazz
Humphries got his big break when the Utah Jazz drafted him in 2004. But he admits that he was still a cocky kid. Teams were pummeling through the rookie from Minnesota and he just couldn’t figure things out.
Then, a few years later, things started to click. Humphries found his rhythm and realized that his defense was what was going to keep him in the game. He said he finally figured out who he was supposed to be when he made it to the Nets.
And then there was the marriage (and divorce)
heard around the world
When Humphries was 26 years old he met 31-year-old reality star, Kim Kardashian. Kardashian was first seen attending one of Humphries’ games on October 31, 2010. A few days later the two were seen out together. By May 2011, Humphries had asked the reality star to marry him.
The pair married on August 25, 2011, less than one year after meeting. But just 72 days later, Kardashian filed for divorce.
Since the couple divorced, their marriage has been the targets of jokes. Whenever a couple in Hollywood divorces after a short time, there’s always that zing, “Well at least it was longer than Kim’s 72-day marriage.”
Humphries said the backlash he received from the divorce was overwhelming. He wrote that there was one time where he was playing in Philadelphia and the boos were so intense. Humphries found himself thinking, “Why exactly are they booing me, though? Is it just because I’m t
Humphries denies his relationship with Kardashian was ever fake
After their marriage ended, many speculated that the whole relationship was just a publicity stunt. A ruse to garner attention for Kardashian’s shows and to gain publicity for Humphries. But the retired NBA star says none of it was fake. Humphries said, “There’s definitely a lot about that world that is not entirely real. But our actual relationship was 100% real.”
The 34-year-old announced that he’s retiring from the NBA. Even though there were times he admits that he didn’t want to be Kris Humphries or “that guy” he is thankful for the time he had in the NBA and feels pride in what he achieved. He concluded his essay by saying, “Whenever I was in the gym, everything else went away. I might not have turned out to be the scorer I thought I was going to be, and I definitely went through some tough times, but at the end of the day, I lasted 13 years in this league. Not a lot of guys can say that.”
