Does Meghan Markle Have a Personal Instagram?

Life in Hollywood is certainly different than it is in Berkshire. When Meghan Markle started dating Prince Harry, it was a drastic lifestyle adjustment. The duchess seems to have adjusted quite well, maintaining a regal presence — despite her scandalous family — and following royal rules.

But just how much did the former actress leave behind? Did she completely cut out social media when she shut down all her accounts in early 2018 or does she have a personal Instagram account?

Prior to becoming the Duchess of Sussex, Markle had a wide-reaching online presence. In addition to the traditional social media accounts, the former Suits actress also ran her own lifestyle blog called The Tig.

Markle started The Tig in 2014 and used it as a way to inspire and communicate with her followers. On her blog, she shared lifestyle tips, recipes, and insights into her personal life.

In 2017, likely at the urging of the royal palace, she shut down her blog, leaving a farewell message on the blog’s homepage. In her message, she wrote that her passion project had “evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun and frivolity.” She encouraged her followers to “keep finding those Tig moments” and thanked her readers for making her days brighter.

Shortly after she closed down her blog, Markle also deactivated and wiped clean all of her social media accounts. Though no official reason was given for erasing her online presence, it’s likely that the palace didn’t want there to be any unflattering information so easily accessible. Plus, the royal family likely wanted to have some control over what the duchess shared with the public.

New fans who are looking to read old posts from the now-duchess are mainly out of luck as all of the content has been removed. However, loyal followers have been able to dig up some old posts thanks to internet archiving tools and have posted the blogs online.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry started their own Instagram account

For some, it felt like the creation of the @sussexroyal Instagram account was a way for the duchess to get back on social media. But the move was not out of the norm for the royal family. Prince William and Kate Middleton have their own Instagram account (@Kennsingtonroyal) as does the royal palace (@theroyalfamily). The accounts are frequently used to update the public on current affairs and share photos of public events.

Meghan and Harry have not used their Instagram page as much as many followers would like. Since opening the account in April, the couple has shared less than 50 posts. However, the couple has shared some intimate photos with fans, including never-before-seen pictures from the couple’s 2018 wedding. On Father’s Day, the couple shared a picture of their new son’s face for the first time.

Fans have speculated since the account’s creation that Markle, herself, is the one running the account, noting several details that seem to prove that the duchess is behind the posts. Several people have pointed out that the posts tend to use American spelling for words. In one post readers keyed in on the word “diapers” being used instead of “nappies.”

Does Meghan Markle have a personal Instagram?

While many fans would like to speculate that the duchess has some secret social media presence, there is no indication that she actually does. Any profile that claims to be hers is fake. While she could maintain one outside the private view, it’s highly unlikely. There is no reason for Markle to have her own account and it wouldn’t make sense for her to go against royal protocol for such a trivial reason.
