Does Prince Charles Get Along With His Sister, Princess Anne?
The royal family has a tendency to be amicable on the surface, but behind closed doors, as with every other family all over the world, tensions can spill over.
This is definitely the case with Prince Charles of England and his sister, Princess Anne. The two have had a complicated relationship for years, and recent reports have come forth that shed some light
How many children does the queen have?
Queen Elizabeth and her husband, Prince Philip, have four children in total. The queen gave birth to her oldest child, Prince Charles, in 1948, Princess Anne in 1950, Prince Andrew in 1960, and finally, Prince Edward in 1964.
While all four of the queen’s children have very different roles and places within the royal family, it is Prince Charles who has drawn the most attention over the course of his life.
As the next in line for the throne, Prince Charles has always had a great deal of weight on his shoulders in terms of expectation and responsibility. Unfortunately, Prince Charles has had a difficult relationship with the public and press and isn’t nearly so popular with the British media as his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.
Most of the trouble started during his marriage to Princess Diana in the ’80s and ’90s, with rumors of his adultery splashed over front pages of newspapers all over the world. Just like many members of the media, some of those closest to Prince Charles had their own issues with his conduct.
Why do Princess Anne and Prince Charles have bad blood?
Although Princess Anne was born only two years after Prince Charles, she is thirteenth in line for the throne. Although she might have her own thoughts on the outdated rules that pushed her down the line of succession, she has lived a very accomplished life and has even competed in the Olympics.
Just like her older brother, Princess Anne has experienced her share of marital discord. Her first marriage, to Captain Mark Phillips ended in 1992 after it was revealed that he had fathered a child outside of their marriage. Following her divorce from Phillips, Princess Anne remarried Commander Timothy Laurence.
The interesting part of the story is that while Princess Anne was in the process of divorcing and remarrying, Prince Charles was going through his own very public divorce with Princess Diana.
As the story of Prince Charles’ affair with Camilla Parker Bowles was slowly being revealed to the public, rumors surfaced that Princess Anne might have actually had an affair with Andrew Parker Bowles, Camilla’s estranged husband.
Reportedly, during a heated family confrontation where Princess Anne berated Prince Charles for his adulterous relationship with Camilla Parker Bowles, Prince Charles responded that she had her own situation to worry about in regards to affairs.
That blowup reportedly led to a very strained relationship ever the next several years – and their differing personalities certainly didn’t help matters. While Prince Charles is said to be more fun-loving, Princess Anne has the reputation of being rather stiff and uncomfortable in social situations.
Will they get along in the future?
Although Prince Charles and Princess Anne have had a troubled history, all seems to be well with the two at the moment. Recent photographs taken of the royal family at Prince Charles’ 70th birthday celebration reveal the siblings laughing over a mutual joke, seemingly very at ease in each other’s company.
It could be that as the two have gotten older, disagreements and fights that they might have had in the past grow less important, and cherishing family has risen to the forefront of everyday life.
