Does Sarah Ferguson Blame Prince Philip For Her Marriage To Prince Andrew Ending?

Following their royal wedding in 1986, everyone thought that Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson were going to live happily ever after. Instead, the pair made headlines for their scandals over the years and separated in 1992 before divorcing in 1996.

Today though they have a very good relationship with one another and even live together under the same roof, which has many people questioning why they ever got divorced in the first place. Well according to Fergie, they had to end their marriage. Here’s what Ferguson has said about why they had to get divorced and if she places blame on the one person who still holds a grudge against her.

Why Prince Philip will never forgive Fergie

You probably recall how Ferguson made headlines for her toe-sucking scandal four years before she and Andrew officially ended their marriage. When the salacious pictures of the Duchess of York and financial advisor John Bryan were splashed across tabloids around the globe, she was staying with her in-laws at Balmoral Castle.

The newspapers were handed out as the royals ate breakfast and while no one was pleased with what they saw the one person who was the most livid was Prince Philip. He was particularly angry with Fergie because of her behavior while she was still married to his son and the damage the scandlal would cause to the family’s reputation.

The news was a huge embarrassment for the royals and to this day he
still harbors ill feelings towards her and has refused to forgive her. In 2018, Philip did agree to pose in the same photo with Ferguson for his granddaughter Princess Eugenie‘s wedding but a royal source said he did not speak to Fergie at all that day.

Does Ferguson blame him for her marriage ending?

The Duke and Duchess of York actully had marital problems before anyone in the royal family labeled Fergie as public enemy No. 1. Their issues had to do with Andrew’s navy career as Ferguson admitted that she spent her first pregnancy alone because he was always away. But in terms of an actual divorce that is not something she wanted.

In an interview with Harper’s Bazaar, Fergie explained that she “didn’t want a divorce but had to because of circumstance.”  She never specifically said that any of the royals asked her to divorce Andrew but because of how Philip, in particular, felt about her after the scandal many believe he would have never allowed them to stay married.

The reason they won’t remarry

There’s been so much speculation that the duke and duchess would like to remarry one another but can’t because of Philip’s loathe for his former daughter-in-law.

Fergie though previously gave another reason why she and her ex won’t walk down the aisle together again.

“Why aren’t we married? Everybody says well then surely it should be the happy ever after ending … it’s just not about marriage,” Ferguson said. “It’s more about this extraordinary friendship we have. Andrew and I, we have a love which is unfathomable, it’s so great and the two girls [Princess Beatrice and Eugenie] love it. Should we be married? I don’t think we’re meant to be married. I think I am free and wild and going around, but nothing will take his place in my heart.”
