Dolly Parton has shared uplifting posts during the COVID-19 pandemic

The coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic has devastated communities worldwide. In the midst of despair, Parton has used social media to engage with followers and spread positivity.

In one tweet, she announced that 93 of her classic tunes are now available on streaming. “I hope these songs bring some light into your life during these hard times,” she wrote. Besides her familiar chart-toppers, Parton has released new music that speaks to the times in which we live.

‘When Life Is Good Again’ demonstrates faith and love

In a March post, Parton tweeted, “The way I see it, if you want the rainbow, you gotta put up with the rain.” The sentiment conveyed in that post foreshadowed “When Life Is Good Again,” which the songstress released in May. In the first verse, she croons the following:

When life is good again
I’ll be a better friend
A bigger person when
Life is good again
More thoughtful than I’ve been
I’ll be so different then
More in the moment when
Life is good again

In the music video for the song, Parton sits down to watch old home movies taken before social distancing became the norm. In the videos, friends and loved ones dance, skate, hug, and enjoy other social activities.

Later in the narrative, individuals are shown, one after the other, isolated and wearing a mask. The solo portraits of masked citizens are a stark contrast to the warm and lively scenes shown moments prior. Parton sings:

I’ll open up my doors again
And hear the message in the wind
Repent of all my sins (Hallelujah)
When life is good again

Parton continues singing about a desire to make positive changes in the lives of others after this era of self-quarantine ends. The images accompanied by Parton’s stirring rendition evoke strong emotions.

Parton’s “When Life Is Good Again” does more than just tug on the heartstrings. It sends a message of hope. The music video culminates with a series of individuals standing on a backdrop of happy home movies. Each one rips away their masks as Parton belts out:

God’s the reason for all things
You want rainbows, you get rain
We’ll all be forever changed.
I’ll sail my boat and fly my kite
Walk in the park, go out at night
And hold my loved ones extra tight.

When everything is on the mend
I’ll even drink with my old friends
Sing and play my mandolin
We’ll make it through this long dark night
Darkness fades when faced with light
And everything’s gonna be alright
When life is good again
