Don Lemon is Engaged! Who is His New Fiance, Tim Malone?

Are wedding bells ringing for news anchor Don Lemon? Well, we certainly hope so because he just announced that he is engaged to his boyfriend, Tim Malone.

How did the proposal happen?

The CNN anchor took to Instagram to announce his engagement and give the details of how it all went down. Apparently, Malone actually proposed to Lemon on his own birthday, and he used their dogs to help.

“He gave me a present on his birthday. How could I say no?” Lemon captioned the photo that showed the pair’s rings and dog tags that read, “Daddy will you marry papa?”

Who is Tim Malone?

We are used to Lemon being on our television screens and in the news, but who is his husband-to-be, Malone?

Malone grew up in Water Mill, New York and is now a real estate agent for the Corcoran Group.

Though he works in real estate now, Malone also has a background in media like his beau.

He graduated from Boston College in 2006 after studying history and journalism, according to People.

After graduating, Malone went to work as a part of the NBC page program in NYC where he worked as a production assistant on the Today Show. He worked at NBC until 2014 before moving on to jobs in sales at USA and Syfy channel.

From there, Malone worked at Billboard for three years before joining the Corcoran Group in 2018.

How long have Lemon and Malone been together?

Lemon, who is usually secretive about his romances, went public with his relationship with Malone by kissing him on-air on CNN’s New Year’s Eve special last year.

The couple has been dating since 2016 and met in New York.

Don Lemon’s road to coming out

In 2011, after many years in the public eye, Lemon told the world he was gay in an interview with the New York Times.

At the time, he spoke of his struggles as a black gay man.

“It’s quite different for an African-American male,” he said. “It’s about the worst thing you can be in black culture. You’re taught you have to be a man; you have to be masculine. In the black community they think you can pray the gay away.”

His coming out was prompted by the upcoming release of his book, Transparent.

The book was actually just supposed to be a short, inspirational piece that was not at all personal.

“It was supposed to be a little pamphlet,” Lemon told the Times. “You know: say your prayers; have a good, hearty handshake; say good morning to your boss.”

But once he started putting pen to paper, he realized that he had so much more to say and it was time for him to start living in his truth.

“I think it would be great if everybody could be out,” he continued. “But it’s such a personal choice. People have to do it at their own speed. I respect that. I do have to say that the more people who come out, the better it is for everyone.”

He went on to talk about how seeing more happy gay people in his youth would probably have helped him be comfortable with himself sooner.

“I think if I had seen more people like me who are out and proud, it wouldn’t have taken me 45 years to say it, to walk in the truth.”
