Donald Glover’s FX Show, ‘Atlanta,’ Cast Members For Season 3
It’s a commercial and critical success, thanks in no small part to the insane talents of creator Donald Glover, and FX’s hit show Atlanta has been renewed for a third season, to the delight of fans everywhere. The show premiered in 2016 and received a great response right off the bat – the show’s distinctive mix of humor and drama resonated with fans across the world. While the third season has not received an exact premiere date yet, it should hit the small screen in early 2019, and holds the promise of even more excitement and comedy than previous seasons.
The cast of the third season of ‘Atlanta’
The show Atlanta follows the lives and fortunes of two cousins that have to deal with family drama while navigating the always-unpredictable Atlanta rap scene. Earn, played by Donald Glover (who also writes and directs the show) is the lead character, along with his cousin Alfred “Paper Boi” Miles, a popular rapper-of-the-moment, played by Brian Tyree Henry. The cast also features such talented stars as Lakeith Stanfield as Alfred’s assistant, Zazie Beetz as Earn’s sometimes girlfriend and mother of his young daughter.
Season three’s cast has not been officially announced, but it’s likely that many familiar faces from season one will be returning, as well as the new additions from the second season. Season two featured a cast list that included Matthew Barnes as Lucas, a music manager, Katt Williams as Earn’s uncle, Robert Powell as a barber, and Derrick J. Haywood as a reclusive musician. Furthermore, with Glover’s red-hot career and impressive resume, it’s likely that Glover will be able to score some exciting celebrity cameos for the third season, like with football star Michael Vick’s surprise appearance in the second season.
What else has Donald Glover been up to?
While hard at work on season three of Atlanta, Donald Glover has also been keeping busy with numerous other projects. He’s become a familiar face to film audiences, with exciting roles in movies like Spider-Man: Homecoming, The Martian, and of course, Solo: A Star Wars Story. His turn as legendary character Lando Calrissian was a smashing success with both critics and audiences, and to many, was the highlight of the film. In 2019, Glover will appear in the movie Guava Island and lend his voice to the character of Simba in the all-new, highly anticipated Lion King film.
Of course, Glover is also equally well-known for his musical talents. He performs under the stage name Childish Gambino, and in 2018, his short film This is America was one of the most-talked-about videos of the year. Filled with rousing social commentary, poignant lyrics, and topical references, the video made Childish Gambino a household name. But although 2018 was a huge year for Glover musically, the star has been hard at work on his music for years before he made it big. His first album, Camp, was released in 2011 and received excellent reviews from critics, who referred to his work as “riveting.”
Glover, whose net worth has risen to $12 million over the past year, has also been a part of some huge pop culture moments in the past several years. He hosted the popular sketch television show Saturday Night Live in May 2018, which is where he debuted his This is America video and proved once again that he can hold his own in comedy forums as well as dramatic ones. When Atlanta returns to FX in 2019, legions of new fans can become acquainted with the work of this multi-talented young star with a knack for insightful social commentary and clever writing.
