Donald Trump Calls Meghan Markle ‘Nasty’, White House Says Report Is ‘Fake News’

It’s clear that Meghan Markle isn’t much of a Donald Trump fan but now, based on the president calling her opinion about him “nasty,” she certainly isn’t likely to hold Trump in any higher regard. Markle isn’t on the schedule to meet with Trump when he visits the UK for a state visit next week, which is probably for the best given his latest comment.

What did Meghan Markle say about Donald Trump?

Before Trump was elected president in 2016, Markle had appeared on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show with Larry Wilmore, where she called Trump “divisive” and “misogynistic.”

The actress, when asked if she would leave the U.S. if Trump beat Clinton in the election, said, “It’s really the moment I go. We film Suits in Toronto and I might just stay in Canada.”

She added, “Yes, of course, Trump is divisive, think about female voters alone, right? I think it was in 2012 the Republican Party lost the female vote by 12 points. That is a huge number and with as misogynistic as Trump is, and so vocal about it, that is a huge chunk of it.”

Markle further noted: “You’re not just voting for a woman if it’s Hillary (Clinton). Yes, you’re voting because she’s a woman, but certainly, because Trump has made it easy to see that you don’t really want that kind of world that he’s painting.”

Trump responds, calling Markle ‘nasty’

In an interview with The Sun, Trump was asked if he was sorry that he is not meeting Markle during the visit “because she wasn’t so nice” about him when he was campaigning for president.

He explained, “I didn’t know that. No, I didn’t know that. No, I hope she is OK. I didn’t know that, no. So what can I say? No, I didn’t know that she was nasty.”

In response to being asked if he believed it was good to have an American princess in terms of helping the relationship between the United States and the UK, he said, “I think it’s nice. I think it’s nice and I am sure she’ll do excellently. She’ll be very good. She’ll be very good. I hope she does [succeed].”

White House Trump Twitter account calls reports ‘fake news’

Many people had thoughts about Trump’s comment about Markle, with Scott Dworkin, co-founder of The Democratic Coalition tweeting: “Trump called Meghan Markle ‘nasty’ right before his upcoming travel to the UK. This coming from the same disgusting dude who also said he ‘could have’ had sex with Princess Diana, only if she passed an HIV test. This was only months after she died. Trump is a gross disgrace.”

The Official Trump War Room Twitter account was quick to clarify Trump’s interview and, of course, call the reporting “fake news.”

The account tweeted: “Fake News CNN is at it again, falsely claiming President Trump called Meghan Markle ‘nasty.’ Here is what he actually said. Listen for yourself!” The account further provided a transcript of the Trump interview, in hopes of providing context about the ‘nasty’ comment.
