YouTube and Instagram is a huge part of Dr. Sandra Lee’s fame. Her pimple-popping videos drew viewers in, but some of them almost got her “kicked out” of YouTube, Instagram, and more. Why and what was done to stop it? Here is everything you need to know.

Dr. Sandra Lee first gained fame from YouTube

Before she became a reality star, Dr. Lee was a YouTube star. She talked to ABC News about what made her first start sharing videos of her procedures in 2014.

She said she “just wanted to show how cool dermatology was.” Followers didn’t really come in until she started posting pimple-popping videos. She tapped into that and started a whole new side business.

Dr. Lee reportedly makes hundreds of thousands of dollars a day from YouTube. That’s probably thanks to her having over 5 million subscribers. She still had to climb to get there and the dermatologist revealed how much money she was making in the early days.

The first month I made $30 or something,” she told People. “Then the next month I did it again and made $300. Then the next month it was in the thousands.”

The doctor seemed to have things figured out on the platform, but there was one issue that kept popping up for her across multiple social media platforms.

Dr. Lee almost got kicked off of social media because the videos can be gross and shocking

The dermatologist became a phenomenon on YouTube and Instagram, but not everyone was on board. Dr. Lee revealed to ABC News that she almost got “kicked out” of multiple social media platforms including YouTube, Snapchat, and Instagram.

“I think … a good part of that was due to the fact that these were gross or shocking videos,” she said. “This was new to people.”

She would get notices warning her that her “gross” content could be removed. Luckily, she got a famous fan who notoriously has a huge Instagram following who backed her up.

Selena Gomez said Dr. Lee’s page was the most interesting one on Instagram

Selena Gomez previously held the title of having the most Instagram followers with over 114 million followers. That title meant she had some pull with the CEO of the company, which she used to promote the Dr. Pimple Popper’s page.

“I think Selena Gomez got interviewed by this CEO of Instagram and [was] asked … the most interesting page that she follows,” Dr. Lee revealed. “And she said my page. I felt like, really, that there was a change. And then all of a sudden I was okay. And so thank you, Selena.”

So Dr. Lee was able to rise to fame on social media through her pimple-popping videos. Her content would get flagged, but she was able to continue to be a social media star with the help of Selena Gomez. Dr. Lee also went on to become a reality star through Dr. Pimple Popper.
