Duggar Family Favorites: The Family’s Top Four Recipes
The Duggar family might be famous for their reality TV series, but their food choices are just as notorious. The family was made famous by a couple of their recipes, and while there is a contingent of fans who believe the Duggars are nailing it in the kitchen, many more fans are concerned about their culinary endeavors. So, what is the family of 21 serving up nightly for dinner? You won’t believe what tops their list as family favorites!
Frito Chili Pie is a family favorite
The Duggars have long sung the praises of Frito Chili Pie. It’s exactly what it sounds like, and while it surely makes an excellent ballgame meal, it doesn’t often show up at the dinner table for those with more discerning palates.
Making this meal is quick and straightforward, which is probably why the Duggar family deploys it as a meal for 21 people. You simply take a bag of Fritos (or any corn-based snack chip will do) and cover it in ground beef, beans, sour cream, and cheese. Just like that, dinner is made. Josh Duggar, the eldest of the Duggar kids, has listed this as his favorite food for years.
The famous Tater Tot Casserole also tops the list
The Duggar family showed the world their culinary chops for the very first time with the Tater Tot Casserole. While they aren’t the only family in America crafting this hot dish, it’s one that has become ubiquitously linked to the Duggars.
So, what exactly is it? The casserole consists of ground turkey mixed with cream of mushroom soup, cream of chicken soup and evaporated milk. The mixture is poured into a casserole dish and then covered with tater tots. The hot dish is then baked in the oven until the tots are golden brown. Some people add cheese to this culinary delight, but the Duggar family leaves it off. Jim Bob Duggar has listed this dish as his favorite food several times.
Anna Duggar brought her Chicken Etti recipe all the way from Florida
When Anna Duggar married into the Duggar family, she brought one great family recipe with her; a chicken dish that the Keller family dubbed Chicken Etti. The casserole meal is simple to make and can feed an army for just a few dollars, which is probably why they love it so much. For fans that don’t enjoy processed cheese product, the meal probably isn’t a winner, but anyone who believes in the power of Velveeta to salvage any meal will surely love it.
To make Chicken Etti, Anna boils spaghetti (that is where the “etti” comes in), then she mixes cream of chicken soup, a pound of Velveeta cheese and a can of diced tomatoes. She shoves that mixture in the microwave to make sure it’s all melted. While that’s spinning away in the microwave, the mother of five mixes together some diced chicken, green peppers and chicken broth. She combines everything and toss it in a casserole dish to bake for 30 minutes.
The Duggar family sometimes wash their meal down with Cherry Vanilla Punch
For special occasions, the Duggar family head out to the Marketplace Grill to enjoy an ice cream dessert that can give you cavities just by looking at it, but if they are hanging out at home and desire a sweet treat, they turn to Cherry Vanilla Punch. The punch is an interesting mixture that might actually be good in that disastrous kind of way.
As noted on the Duggar family blog, the punch is pretty simple. All you need is Welch’s white grape cherry juice, 7up (or Sprite) and a quart of cherry vanilla ice cream (the Duggar family prefers Breyers). To make the punch soften the ice cream and then mix it with the juice and soda. The Duggar family also employs this punch when they are hosting a social event.
