‘DWTS’: Artem Chigvintsev Says He Won’t Even Watch the Show This Season After Getting Cut

It seems like professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev is still licking his wounds after not being asked to return to Dancing with the Stars for season 28.

Fans of the show were shocked when the dancers for this season were announced and vet dancers Chigvinstev and Sharna Burgess weren’t on the list.

“Both Artem and Sharna are upset to not be on this season of the show. Sharna worked really hard and was kind of known for coming so close and then not winning,” a source told HollywoodLife once the news broke. “So the fact that she actually won and was not asked to come back is hard for her.”

“Since the show can tend to be a revolving door with the dancers, of course it is possible, but the network wanted to switch things up,” the source added. “It happens every season and the dancers, as bummed as they get, understand. It’s business and they get that, but that doesn’t make it easier. They will both do what the other pros do when not dancing and that is teach classes around the country and cheer on their fellow dancers and friends from backstage.”

How did Chigvintsev find out he wasn’t returning to the show?

Apparently, Chigvintsev was just as shocked not to be asked to return as fans were when his name wasn’t announced for this season.

On The Bellas podcast, he revealed that he wasn’t told that he didn’t make the cut until a few days before the cast was announced on Good Morning America.

He said that he had been having “positive conversations” with the producers leading up to the decision, so he felt pretty sure that he was being asked back.

He got the first hint that things might not have been going as well as he had hoped when he hadn’t heard anything by the Friday before the announcement. He tried to contact producers at 10 a.m. that day and was told that they would reach out to him later in the afternoon.

Finally, around 8 p.m. that night, a producer texted him asking if he could talk.

“So I immediately called and the first sentence I heard was, ‘Hey, we have bad news for you,'” Chigvintsev said.

How does Chigvintsev feel about getting cut from the show?

After spending so much time on the show, being let go hasn’t been easy for the dancer.

“I dedicated 10 years of my life to that company,” he said. “And getting let go three days before an announcement, that’s like a punch in the stomach, really.”

“It’s not even a job, it’s a lifestyle if you’ve been doing it for a very, very long time,” he continued. “There was never really a thought in my mind that I [wasn’t] going to be doing it. … But getting this call and [hearing], ‘There’s going to be no involvement in the show from now on’ — it’s like going through a breakup after 10 years.”

Will Chigvintsev watch ‘DWTS’?

Though Chigvintsev would like to support his friends who are on the show, he doesn’t think he’ll be watching it this season.

“I think as far as right now, definitely no,” he told Entertainment Tonight of whether he would be tuning in this season. “Not because I’m not supporting the show or all the people who are there, but I think if I were to [watch], all of the feelings of not being there would just flood back.”
