‘DWTS’: Hannah Brown Does BTS Proud With a ‘Boy With Luv’ Tango and ARMY Can’t Contain Their Excitement
On “Boy Band and Girl Group Night,” Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten shook two fandoms when they took the Dancing With the Stars stage and performed to the BTS hit “Boy With Luv.” As the former lead of The Bachelorette, Brown garnered the passionate voices of Bachelor Nation. Now, Brown has earned the approval of BTS fans — aka ARMY — across the nation after showcasing a phenomenal “Boy With Luv” tango featuring Korean lyrics on DWTS. But more importantly, it seems the 24-year-old reality star is becoming quite the ARMY herself.
Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten perform to BTS’s ‘Boy With Luv’ on ‘DWTS’
Prior to Brown and Bersten’s “Boy With Luv” tango on DWTS, the Bachelorette alum gushed over her performance featuring the K-pop septet, which includes members RM, Jin, Suga, J-Hope, Jimin, V, and Jungkook.
“For our second dance, we are doing a tango to the biggest boy band in the world right now, BTS, and their song ‘Boy With Luv,'” Brown said.
Then despite having a rough week and a breakdown at rehearsals, Alabama Hannah pulled off a near-perfect performance that not only stunned the judges, but all fans watching at home. And ultimately, Brown and Bersten received a total score of 39/40 for their dance to BTS’s “Boy With Luv.”
The DWTS guest judge, *NSYNC’s Joey Fatone, called Brown and Bersten’s performance the “best dance of the night,” according to Entertainment Tonight.
Bruno Tonioli echoed Fatone’s comments, adding a bit of flair, per usual. “I am purring like a kitten that just got a cream,” Tonioli said. “You brought a lot of passion, but at the same time it was elegant.”
Carrie Ann Inaba also gave Brown and Bersten a 10, noting Brown brought her “A-game” back to the stage. Meanwhile, Len Goodman, who was the only judge to give the BTS number a 9, said the performance was “well done,” but a bit loose.
Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten gush over BTS after her ‘DWTS’ performance
Following Bersten and Brown’s performance to the BTS single on Nov. 11, both DWTS contestants opened up about dancing to “Boy With Luv.” According to ET, Brown has become a big BTS fan in the past week, despite hearing the chart-topping hit for the first time. And not going to lie, Brown’s statement is reminiscent of how other BTS fans fell in love with the K-pop group. As novelist John Green would say, it happened “slowly, and then all at once.”
“This week was a blast,” Brown said. “This was the first time I had heard this song, and now we, like, love this song!”
The Bachelorette alum also expressed admiration for the BTS members.
“They’re amazing at what they do,” Brown said. “They’re great dancers, great performers, and they’re the big boy band [of] our time.”
Meanwhile, Bersten also shared his thoughts on the K-pop group. “It’s awesome,” he told ET. “I’m very excited that we got to dance with them.”
BTS fans react to Hannah Brown and Alan Bersten’s dance to ‘Boy With Luv’
The moment Brown and Bersten broke out their “Boy With Luv” number and received top scores with the DWTS judges, BTS fans spread their wings on social media to express their excitement.
“[Hannah Brown] and Alan got a 39 OUT OF 40 on their dance to #BoyWithLuv by @BTS_twt! It was amazing! Congratulations,” one fan on Twitter wrote, alongside a purple heart emoji.
“Hannah scored a 39/40 for her @BTS_twt [‘Boy With Luv’] tango, one of the best scores of the evening & BTS was described as the biggest boyband in the world & a global phenomenon,” another ARMY tweeted. “I’ll take it!”
Meanwhile, many members of ARMY noted the massive cross-fandom event Brown and Bersten created on DWTS.
“Note: DWTS almost always does covers of songs b/c they have to rearrange the songs for the dancing,” the fan wrote.
“Seeing them say this about @BTS_twt on a show that has different demographic made me tear up a little,” a fan on Twitter wrote in response to Brown’s comments about BTS.
“Hannah did a great job with the dance,” another ARMY wrote on Reddit. “My two interests intersecting – The Bachelor and BTS. Nice!!”
And although the song chosen for the dance wasn’t exactly as perfect as the original vocals, most fans were still excited to hear Korean being sung on the ABC reality series.
“Gotta admit it’s not my fav dance, but I’m impressed that the singers sang in Korean,” a Redditor wrote. “I’m usually used to the only non-English songs being Spanish songs. I wonder if they took lessons for pronunciation. It wasn’t perfect, but I enjoyed hearing it regardless!”
“They are singing Korean lyrics on #dwts for Boy with Luv!!!” another fan wrote on Twitter. “Hannah and Alan killed it!!!”
Whether you’re part of Bachelor Nation, a member of ARMY, or even both, fans everywhere are celebrating Brown and Bersten’s solid performance on DWTS. Now, let’s just hope the couple can survive another week and get one step closer to that Mirrorball Trophy. Roll tide, let’s get it.
