‘DWTS’: How Sharna Burgess & Artem Chigvintsev Really Feel About Not Being Asked to Return to the Show This Season
Dancing with the Stars is back! When the show decided to take a year-long break, fans were a little concerned about the future of the series. But now, the iconic dancing competition that pairs hapless celebrities with professional dancers is back in full force.
The DWTS Season 28 cast has just been announced! And while some people have been shocked by who is on the roster, others have had more questions about who wasn’t included in the lineup.
Who is joining ‘DWTS’ Season 28?
The cast is full of celebrities, athletes, and one former employee of the White House. The cast includes the following:
- Lamar Odom, former basketball player
- Hannah Brown of The Bachelorette
- Karamo Brown of Queer Eye
- Ally Brooke, former member of Fifth Harmony
- Christie Brinkley, singer
- James Van Der Beek, actor who played Dawson Leery on Dawson’s Creek
- Kate Flannery, actress
- Kel Mitchell, comedian best known for his role on Kenan & Kel
- Lauren Alaina, country singer
- Ray Lewis, former football player
- Mary Wilson, founding member of the Supremes
- Sean Spicer, former White House Press secretary
Who won’t be returning?
DWTS doesn’t always bring back the same professional dancers. But when series regulars Sharna Burgess and Artem Chigvintsev were not asked to be on this season, they were shocked.
“Both Artem and Sharna are upset to not be on this season of the show,” a source close to Burgess told HollywoodLife. “Sharna worked really hard and was kind of known for coming so close and then not winning. So the fact that she actually won and was not asked to come back is hard for her.”
How do Burgess and Chigvintsev feel about not being on the show?
Overall, both dancers are not happy that they will not be a part of season 28.
“She was blindsided when she first found out,” the source continued. “She loves the show and put her heart and soul into it and was extremely loyal. She was sad to not be asked back and is upset to not be able to do the show with her best friend Peta(Murgatroyd) who is returning. She would love to do the show again in the future and so would Artem.”
“Since the show can tend to be a revolving door with the dancers, of course it is possible, but the network wanted to switch things up. It happens every season and the dancers, as bummed as they get, understand. It’s business and they get that, but that doesn’t make it easier. They will both do what the other pros do when not dancing and that is teach classes around the country and cheer on their fellow dancers and friends from backstage,” the source said.
Burgess speaks out
Burgess took to Instagram to address her absence from the season 28 roster.
“As I’m sure you’ve heard, I will not be returning to @dancingabc this season,” she wrote. “I am unbelievably sad to not be back!!! However, what I can wholeheartedly tell you is that it’s all good, ALL love and in this moment I can’t help but be grateful for the time and the journey that I’ve had, the people I’ve met, the incredible talent I’ve shared the stage with and the memories I’ve made. To say the least.. it’s been epic. ♥️ and to have finally won still feels as exciting and special as it did the moment @tombergeron said our names.”
“I have endless love and gratitude for all of you and for everyone at the show,” she concluded. “For my fellow pros you light up the stage time and time again, you are what makes the show magical and I can’t wait to watch you shine. ✨ And to all 12 of my partners… thank you thank you and I adore you.”
“I’ll be watching and cheering this coming season for all of my fam out on that dance floor!!! Good luck everyone, may this be the best season yet! Let’s go season 28!!!”
