The dancing show came back looking very different. That’s partially because Bergeron and Andrews were fired from their hosting positions.

“Just informed @DancingABC will be continuing without me. It’s been an incredible 15-year run and the most unexpected gift of my career. I’m grateful for that and for the lifelong friendships made. That said, now what am I supposed to do with all of these glitter masks?” Bergeron tweeted.

“Thank you ABC and the entire Dancing with the Stars family for six memorable seasons. Those years wouldn’t have been as special without my loving host Tom Bergeron, the talented dancers, and witty judges. I will always cherish my days on that set, even if I wasn’t the best at walking in heels,” Andrews said in her statement.

The hosts made a few jokes online about their dismissal. Tyra Banks started the new season, but also took to social media to address fans.

Banks was announced as the new host of the competition. The beginning of the season had some awkward moments with her stumbling over her words. The new host acknowledged this later.

“Tonight I hosted the second episode of Dancing with the Stars… and yeah, it wasn’t perfect,” she said in a video on TikTok. “Yeah, I had a lot of fun but I messed up, I said the wrong words, but I kept, kept going.”

She went on to mention how Skai Jackson almost fell during her performance. “So the message is: I messed up this week, Skai messed up this week, but we’re gonna keep on going and going,” Banks said.

Fans are still left wondering why the change was made. Finally, a producer has opened up about it.

Executive producer, Andrew Llinares talked about the casting change at the ABC’s VirtuFall panel. He claimed a long-running show needs to evolve to be fresh, according to Us Weekly.

“I think it’s working brilliantly with the one host. I think it’s really refreshed the pace of the show, actually,” Llinares said. “I think it’s taken it to a new pace, in terms of moving faster and just feeling different.”

He continued, “I think there’s a real danger when a show’s been on for a long time that the audience almost gets bored of the rhythm. It doesn’t mean there’s anything wrong with it. It just sort of gets a little boring — the rhythm of it. So, I think it’s changed the rhythm of the show in a really exciting way.”

Sadly, it looks like they wanted a new start so the hosts were let go as part of that. Fans will have to wait to see if the change will stay after this season.
