Dylan Barbour Forgot April Fools Was Canceled And Posted About Chris Harrison’s ‘Retirement’

If you follow The Bachelorette and Bachelor in Paradise alum Dylan Barbour on social media, you’ll know that he’s quite a funny guy. Whether it’s with his friends like Tyler Cameron or Mike Johnson, or with his lovely fiancée Hannah Godwin, he has a great sense of humor. So it’s no wonder that he posted a pretty believable April Fools’ joke on April 1. It really threw fans for a loop on both Instagram and Twitter.

Dylan Barbour congratulated Chris Harrison on retiring from ‘The Bachelor’ franchise

On the morning of April 1st, before many could even remember what day it was, Barbour posted a sweet picture of him and Godwin with The Bachelor host, Chris Harrison at one of the live reunion shows. And he wrote a lengthy caption.

wow, what a career. I want to be the first to congratulate Chris on his retirement from ABC’s “The Bachelor” franchise! You’ve changed all of our lives for the better, and I can’t wait to see what the next phase of your life holds for you. With that said, I can’t believe you’ve chosen ME to take your place as the host of ABC’s The Bachelor, The Bachelorette, and Bachelor in Paradise—although I was oddly left off Listen To Your Heart. You could have chosen anyone! Like Wells Adams, Blake Horseman, or evening Chad Johnston. While no one can ever replace you, I promise you and all of #BachelorNation to give it my all. I love u, Chris. #HAGS 🌹”

Hold on one minute. It’s truly an endearing and heartfelt post, talking about how much Harrison and the show have changed the lives of many. And not only that, but Barbour’s going to be the new host? What an announcement it would be, if only it was real.

His friends played along, but others want to remind Barbour that April Fools’ was canceled

To Barbour’s credit, his friends played along with the joke. Godwin wrote, “congrats,” and BIP alum Kristina Schulman wrote that she had some better options for the next host. “Could be Rachel Lindsay, Hannah Godwin, me… but I get your point.” Dean Unglert wrote, “big news. i know you’ve been gunning for this for awhile now. you deserve it.”

But it seems he might have fooled some Bachelor Nation pros, too. BIP‘s Matt Donald commented, “*immediately goes to Chris Harrison’s IG to see if he announced his retirement*🤣”

However, Lauren Zima, senior producer and host for Entertainment Tonight and Harrison’s girlfriend, was quick to respond to the post. She didn’t even try to play along for the bit. “Dylan we officially canceled April Fools pls check your email we all got the memo.”

And Ria Ciuffo, podcast host for Chicks in the Office, commented, “April fools was CANCELED DYLAN.” Why the cancellation? Well, with the massive global crisis going on with this COVID-19 pandemic, many just thought society would skip this prank-filled day. But for some, like Barbour, real-life isn’t enough of a joke.

Fans are freaking out in both directions

Regardless of your policy on pranks during a pandemic, Barbour’s joke was executed very well. It caught so many off guard because of the way the world is right now and it was just realistic enough to scare a lot of people.

One Instagram user wrote, “i had a heart attack,” followed by “that really got me jesus christ.” Another wrote, “why’d I believe this.” And another commented on how they really fell for it too, “I showed my husband like omg did you see this!? And then realized what day it was…”

And the hysteria made its way over to Twitter. Some fans thought it was true, while the fact that was actually April Fools Day set in for others.

So, whether you’re making joke-posts, or using silly string on someone, just know that your 2020 April Fools’ Day joke could never top Dylan Barbour’s.
