Ellen DeGeneres and Pink Defend Meghan Markle and Prince Harry: Bullying Is ‘Out of Control’
Celebrities are coming out to defend Prince Harry and Meghan Markle — first, Elton John set the record straight about how he paid for their recent private jet and then, Ellen DeGeneres and Pink explained why all of the bullying of the royal couple is getting out of hand.
Elton John defends Harry and Markle
The legendary singer took aim at all of the haters who have been criticizing Prince Harry and Markle for flying on gas-guzzling private jets when they support environmental causes.
In an emotional social media post, John explained why he paid for the plane for the royal couple and included a plea for the media and other trolls to back off.
He started his post by remarking: “I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week. Prince Harry’s Mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”
He added: “After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight. To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint.”
The singer noted, “I highly respect and applaud both Harry and Meghan’s commitment to charity,” and had this message for the press: “to cease these relentless and untrue assassinations on their character that are spuriously crafted on an almost daily basis.”
Ellen DeGeneres shares her personal knowledge of the couple
Another heavy-hitting celebrity also came to Prince Harry and Markle’s defense — talk show host and comedian Ellen DeGeneres shared posts on Twitter and Instagram to explain how “down-to-earth” the couple is.
She wrote: “Portia and I met Prince Harry and Meghan in England to talk about their work on wildlife conservation. They were the most down-to-earth, compassionate people. Imagine being attacked for everything you do, when all you’re trying to do is make the world better.”
Pink calls out the public bullying
Singer Pink, never one to hold back, also weighed in on what Prince Harry and Markle are up against.
The singer tweeted: “I’m happy to see people coming to the defense of The Duke and Duchess of Sussex. The way people treat her is the most public form of bullying I have seen in a while. It’s out of control.”
She added: “Let’s all be a bit kinder, huh? Let’s show our children that it’s cool to be kind.”
Piers Morgan slams the couple
One of the couple’s biggest critics, Piers Morgan, has had plenty to say about the couple flying on private planes and took to Twitter to get in a little dig.
In a Twitter post showing the TV host sitting on a British Airways flight to Nice, he noted: “Memo to ‘eco-warriors’ Meghan and Harry: this is what Economy to Nice looks like. Try it some time. @British_Airways #ManOfThePeople.”
