Ellen DeGeneres Has 4 New Shows Coming to HBO Max
Slowly but surely, newcomers to the streaming world are lining up their content offerings so they can attract millions of viewers. Netflix is continuing to mount its plans, but so are newbies Apple TV+, Disney+, and HBO Max. The latter just announced that talk show host Ellen DeGeneres is partnering up with them to create a slate of programming for the service.
Ellen has four shows in the works
DeGeneres was excited to share the news during her show on Friday that she is working with HBO Max to bring four new series to the platform. She also surprised audience members with free two-year subscriptions to the streamer, ET Canada reports.
Three of the shows have already been ordered and the fourth is currently in development. Her company, A Very Good Production, will be introducing one animated series and three unscripted productions to WarnerMedia’s HBO Max.
Fans should get ready for First Dates Hotel, Ellen’s Home Design Challenge, Little Ellen, and Finding Einstein.
What are the new shows about?
According to a press release from WarnerMedia, HBO Max released descriptions for each series, and with the exception of Finding Einstein, they’re already in production.
Little Ellen is an animated show that will “explore the world through the eyes of a hilarious and unpredictable 7-year-old Ellen DeGeneres. On her adventures in her musical hometown of New Orleans, Little Ellen takes big risks and makes big mistakes, but she’s always able to laugh at herself and bounce back when things don’t go as planned.”
First Dates Hotel is adaptation of a British spinoff that pairs singles with potential romantic partners. It takes place “at an affluent boutique hotel where single people from multiple generations gather for an intensive and tailor-made romantic experience. If the potential lovers like each other, they can choose to stay on for a second date in the hopes of finding out if they’re ultimately a match.”
True to its title, Ellen’s Home Design Challenge will see DeGeneres act as a guide and judge for contestants trying their hand at design.
Though it’s still in development, Finding Einstein is a docuseries set up to search for and highlight up and coming geniuses: “Some may be a stone’s throw away …others may be in a tiny village halfway around the world…all of them are motivated to live up to Einstein’s ideal of changing the world for the better.”
When does HBO Max launch?
The new streamer is set to make its debut in spring 2020. Though a pricing model hasn’t been revealed yet, it’s predicted that the service will cost around $15 per month.
However, the WarnerMedia brand will be competing during that season with NBC’s Peacock, which is launching in April 2020.
By that time, Disney+ and Apple TV+ will be up and running with their own streaming content, as they both open their virtual doors on Nov. 1.
DeGeneres is looking forward to the HBO Max projects and her millions of fans will undoubtedly sign up to see what they’re all about. As for her outlook: “I’m very excited to bring my new shows to HBO Max. I don’t know who Max is, but I can’t wait to work with him.”
