Ellen Degeneres Is Reportedly Not Handling the ‘Mean’ Rumors Well
Ellen Degeneres has heard the rumors that she’s a “mean” person and sources are reporting that she’s not coping with them well. But what caused the rumors to began surfacing, and why do they continue to gain traction? Furthermore, will Degeneres ever address the claims should they continue to persist?
The trouble with the mean rumors started back in March of 2020. Amidst the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, comedian, Kevin T. Porter decided to donate money in exchange for stories about Degeneres being mean. Taking to his Twitter page, he announced his plans to his 42,000+ followers.
How the “mean” rumors about Ellen Degeneres got started
“Right now we all need a little kindness. You know, like Ellen Degeneres always talks about! She’s also notoriously one of the meanest people alive Respond to this with the most insane stories you’ve heard about Ellen being mean & I’ll match every one w/ $2 to, @LAFoodBank” Porter tweeted out.
Many people took Porter up on his offer. Almost instantly, stories began pouring in about the host of The Ellen Degeneres Show. One person declared that they’d seen her dunk a waiter’s head into a scalding bowl soup. Another alleged that she has a “sensitive nose” and all employees must chew gum before stepping inside her office. Allegedly, if Degeneres thinks they smell, they must go home and shower before reporting back to work.
Crew members from the ‘Ellen Degeneres Show’ speak out
Rumors only got worse when fans accused Degeneres of being insensitive with the way she was handling coronavirus. After comparing being confined to her mansion to being in prison, many people felt that she was exhibiting tone-deaf behavior. But, things really hit the fan when she was accused of treating the crew members of her show poorly.
Reports surfaced that Degeneres’ crew members were kept in the dark about the status of their employment. Apparently, their hours and pay had been cut substantially and they didn’t know when they were going to be able to work again. This was, of course, contrary to what Degeneres herself was saying. She took to her Instagram page to share that she was building a set at her home because she missed her crew. But, according to her crew, only four people from The Ellen Degeneres Show crew were hired for the at-home show.
A former bodyguard weighs in
Rumors of Degeneres being mean died down once more until Tom Majercak, a bodyguard who once guarded Degeneres at the Oscars, claimed she was cold and sly and wouldn’t even speak to him throughout the night. This new report certainly didn’t help dispel all the mean reports that have come out about the comedian.
But just how is Degeneres handling all these reports that she is allegedly mean? According to an unidentified source that spoke to Us Weekly, Degeneres isn’t faring well. “Ellen is at the end of her rope. She thought this was all just sour grapes from a few haters. But it’s not a passing thing — the hits just keep coming,” the source shared. If this is true, perhaps it’s only a matter of time before Degeneres addresses these claims herself.
