What ‘Emily in Paris’ is about

Emily in Paris follows Chicago native and marketing professional Emily Cooper as she makes a transatlantic move to Paris for her job. Following her move, she has many obstacles, like learning French, culture shock, and falling for a local chef who’s in a relationship. Also, Emily has to deal with a strict boss and a French office that differs greatly from her American one.

Sex and the City creator Darren Star created Emily in Paris and Netflix released the show on Oct. 2, 2020. It was an instant hit and went straight to Netflix’s Top 10 list.

“The show is a love letter to Paris through the eyes of this American girl who has never been there,” Star said to The Hollywood Reporter in an interview. He continued: “The first thing she is seeing is the clichés because it’s from her point of view. I’m not sorry for looking at Paris through a glamorous lens. It’s a beautiful city, and I wanted to do a show that celebrated that part of Paris.”

The creator added that he’s passionate about writing women characters.

“I enjoy writing female characters,” he said. “I find them very verbally expressive; they’re vulnerable; they have challenges — they may not be mine, but I can relate to them.”

Netflix renewed Emily in Paris for season two in November 2020, per Deadline.
