Every One of Katie Holmes’ Most Iconic Hairstyles
It feels like every time we see Katie Holmes, she’s rocking a completely different hairstyle. Over the years, she’s gone from long and curly to short and blunt, and every style in between.
Let’s take a look back at her most iconic hairstyles since 2005, and see how her look has transformed into the “feminine but kickass” style that left us stunned.
15. Spiral curls
Holmes rocked these spiral curls in her long hair when Tom Cruise was merely her fiancé. All eyes were definitely on her, even though she was accompanying Cruise at the UK premiere of his movie, War Of The Worlds, in 2005.

13. Her iconic bob with bangs
This was one of Holmes’ most iconic hairstyles, dating back to February 2008. Letting her hair grow out a little bit, her bob and bangs combo framed her face beautifully.
We’re sure plenty of women brought this photo to their hairdresser for inspiration, and we don’t blame them.

12. Transformation with dramatic curls
Only a few days after Holmes stunned with her sleek and straight look, she totally transformed her short bob. She vamped up the look with dramatic curls, proving there are plenty of ways to style short hair.
Her dark shade of brunette mixed with her bangs make a bold statement during this 2008 Beverly Hills luncheon.

11. Trademark Holmes style
2008 was clearly the year for Holmes’ hair experimentation, but she rocked it every time. This pixie cut she wore to the Tropic Thunder premiere was nothing short of fierce.
With longer sections of hair framing her face, this hairstyle went from a pretty basic cut to a trademark Holmes style.

10. Minimalist beauty
In August 2009, Holmes had clearly decided it was time for change and grew out her pixie. While attending a celebration for the 30th anniversary of the Independent Filmmaker Project, she slicked back her hair for more of a “minimalist beauty” approach.

9. Long, luscious, and healthy
Holmes definitely looks like she took a page out of Kate Middleton’s book with this windswept style. Her blowout looks long, luscious, and healthy — and quite different from the looks she’d been sporting for the past few years.
She made history with this rebranded style at the 2010 Golden Globe Awards Nominations.

8. Perfectly-tousled beach waves
In 2011, Holmes totally owned the transformation into her longer-haired phase. Her perfectly-tousled beach waves looked gorgeous at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards.
She was definitely on-trend with her “I woke up like this” hairstyle, making her look more youthful than ever.

7. Statement bangs
Of course, Holmes couldn’t go without bangs for too long. In February 2012, Holmes debuted this famous updo. At the Vanity Fair Oscar Party, her bangs made a seriously bold statement, but she still looked super feminine with her ponytail grazing over her shoulder.

6. Romantic, wavy style
We definitely want to know Holmes’ secret to complete hair transformations year-to-year. In 2013, she revealed this romantic, wavy style. The just-past-the-shoulders length really suits her, making her style look even more fresh and trendy at Z100’s Jingle Ball in 2014.

5. Teased updo
Holmes completely wowed with this updo at the 2014 premiere of The Giver. Her teased hair combined with her smoky eye and blush pink dress make the overall style feel very haute couture.

4. Another go at her signature look
Getting in touch with her 2008 self, Holmes decided to give her signature look another go. At the 2015 Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, she gave us a bit of a flashback with this short bob and bold bangs. Granted it was a wig, but Holmes gave this blunt style all new life.

3. ‘70s throwback
At the next year’s Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute Gala, Holmes’ hair reached new lengths with this pin-straight style. This was totally new look for her, which her hairstylist, DJ Quintero, described as “very Cher-esque; a ’70s throwback.”
Her look was unique in a crowd of futuristic costumes for 2016’s “Manus x Machina: Fashion In An Age Of Technology” theme.

2. Shoulder-length waves
Holmes has had years of experience to figure out what hairstyles work for her. This shoulder-length cut is no exception — and may even be our favorite look yet. In August 2017, Holmes showed off this look at the blue carpet premiere of The Tick.
Not only does the length work well for her, but we love that she added some lighter hues to her color. We’ve seen her with this wavy style a few times, so we know she was a fan of this look.
Next: She debuted this dramatically different look in October 2017.
1. ‘Feminine but kickass’
In October 2017, Holmes has gone shorter than ever. While she’s sported a pixie cut in the past, this proves she can truly rock a hairstyle at any length.
This pixie is actually for a role in a movie called The Doorman, according to Holmes. She told People, “She’s an ex-Marine and she’s a warrior. I’m excited. I’m training. I’m sore.” Quintero said they “were trying to find a balance between something feminine but kickass cause she’s working really hard — her body looks incredible.”
While this is the perfect description for her dramatic change, we think each of her iconic haircuts have been “feminine but kickass,” too.
