Everything Prince Harry and Meghan Markle Are Doing on Their South African Tour to Shed Their Bad Image
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle haven’t had the easiest time with the media since they’ve gotten married. It seems like no matter what the royal couple does, they are always being criticized for something or other.
Unfortunately, this harsh criticism has really taken a toll on both the royal family as a whole and Markle and Prince Harry.
But they are doing a few things on their royal tour of South Africa that could be turning things around.
What are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle getting criticized for?
The most recent criticism of the royal couple has been that they are hypocrites. The pair both speak a lot about being environmentally conscious and doing what we can to control our impact on the world, but recently, they flew in a private jet to Nice, France.
The backlash on the couple was so bad that singer Elton John had to come forward and reveal that the trip was a gift from him.
“I am deeply distressed by today’s distorted and malicious account in the press surrounding the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s private stay at my home in Nice last week,” he wrote on Instagram.
“Prince Harry’s mother, Diana Princess Of Wales was one of my dearest friends. I feel a profound sense of obligation to protect Harry and his family from the unnecessary press intrusion that contributed to Diana’s untimely death.”
“After a hectic year continuing their hard work and dedication to charity, David and I wanted the young family to have a private holiday inside the safety and tranquility of our home. To maintain a high level of much-needed protection, we provided them with a private jet flight. To support Prince Harry’s commitment to the environment, we ensured their flight was carbon neutral, by making the appropriate contribution to Carbon Footprint™”
After receiving so much criticism for flying private while telling others to watch their environmental impact, Markle and Harry have gone to great lengths to change their image.
What have Markle and Harry done to change their image?
Before going to South Africa, Markle hired an American PR team to help with her public persona and apparently, they have been working hard.
Since being in South Africa, Markle has recycled more than a few outfits. While this may seem small, one of the biggest frustrations that people had with the former actress was that she was not prudent with money and she and Harry were trying to live too lavishly.
The royals also recently introduced baby Archie to Archbishop Desmond Tutu, and instead of putting the new baby in an expensive outfit, the couple chose to dress him in a £12.99 getup from H&M.
In addition to dressing down her kid, Markle is also dressing down her fingers.
Normally, the royal wears her engagement ring and enternity ring on her hands. Instead, she is now wearing just her gold wedding band and a turquoise ring from Jennifer Meyer.
Sources have said that this was in an attempt to appear more low key during the meet-and-greets in the country.
It is unclear whether these small acts will be enough to change the public opinion of Markle, but at least they are a start.
