Everything We Know About Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin’s Engagement
You could almost hear the hearts of Jelena fans everywhere shattering after the news broke that Justin Bieber and Hailey Baldwin got engaged.
On Sunday, TMZ reported that the pop star proposed to his model girlfriend while at a resort in the Bahamas on July 7. Sources told the media outlet that Bieber, 24, and Baldwin, 21, were enjoying a night of salsa dancing at a restaurant on the hotel property with other guests when the Beibs popped the question.
Lots of cells phones were out while the couple was on the dancefloor but two eyewitnesses said that at one point Bieber’s security asked if those around them could put away their phones for the big moment. Therefore, the proposal was not caught on camera and while neither star has commented on the engagement reports themselves, Baldwin was seen with a huge diamond on her finger Sunday. In addition, their parents posted some cryptic, and not-so-cryptic, messages on social media that seem to confirm the news.
The singer’s father, Jeremy Bieber, posted on Instagram an image of his son on a beach with the sun setting in the background and the caption, “Proud is an understatement! Excited for the next chapter!”
Moreover, the “Sorry” artist’s mother, Pattie Mallette, also took to social media writing, “Love Love Love Love Love Love Love.”
But it was Baldwin’s famous dad, Stephen Baldwin, who said it all in a tweet that he posted before quickly deleting it. “Always pray 4 God’s will!!” the actor wrote. “He is moving in the hearts of JB & HB. Let’s all pray for His will to be done. Love you 2 so much!!! #Godstiming #bestisyettocome.”
The posts sent social media into overdrive with reactions pouring in from everywhere and of course, fans couldn’t stop mentioning Bieber’s ex, Selena Gomez, who he dated off and on since 2011. While many fans were bummed that Bieber’s engagement puts an end to Jelena for good, others were happy that the “Hands to Myself” singer could completely move forward now. Her followers even got the hashtag #SelenaIsFreeParty trending.
As for how Gomez feels about the news, a source claimed that she’s not bothered by it. “Selena doesn’t care. She’s over Justin and the last time they broke up allowed her to get over him fully,” the insider told Us Weekly.
Bieber and Gomez called it quits in March and just a few months later he rekindled his 2015-16 romance with Baldwin. Another insider said that if he was trying to make Gomez upset when he initially got back together with the model it didn’t work.
“Anytime he has done this in the past, Selena doesn’t even see stories about him in the media,” the source explained, adding, “Her team makes sure she is protected from it, so it’s a waste of time on Justin’s end if that’s his goal. No one in her circle speaks about him when they are on the outs and she keeps her circle and team very small.”
Gomez spent this past weekend relaxing on a boat with friends and appeared not to have a care in the world.
