Everything You Need to Know About Blake Shelton’s Adorable Proposal to Gwen Stefani
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are engaged. The Voice stars announced their engagement on Tuesday. Fans of the couple and the show have been ecstatic ever since the news was announced and now, sources close to the couple are spilling more details about the epic proposal.
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s relationship
Stefani and Shelton met while they were both judges on The Voice in 2014. At the time, Shelton was still married to his second wife, Miranda Lambert. He has since credited Stefani with helping him get through his divorce.
“It went from…checking in on each other once a week through email … to ‘Hey here’s my phone number if you ever want to text.’ Next thing I know, I wake up and she’s all I care about and I’m wondering if she feels the same about me,” Shelton told Billboard in 2016 of how their relationship progressed.
The two were together for five years before getting engaged.
Rumors had started swirling about the couple getting engaged months ago. In 2019, Stefani wore a huge ring on her left ring finger to the People’s Choice Awards in November, which made fans wonder if she and Shelton had secretly gotten engaged. However, she quickly denied those rumors.
Shelton and Stefani were in no rush to tie the knot as both had been married before. Stefani was previously married to musician Gavin Rossdale and Shelton was married to Kaynette Williams and Lambert.
“Blake and Gwen knew this day was coming and Blake did it on his own terms,” a source close to the couple told HollywoodLife. “Though their relationship has been followed closely and everyone wants them engaged and married, Blake and Gwen are doing things that [are] right for them as a couple and a family.
“This engagement was a long time coming but for them it is the right time,” the source continued. “They are very much in love and Blake and Gwen, who have been married before, are determined to make this their last marriage, they know they are each other’s soulmates.”
The pair each announced the news via their Instagram accounts. Shelton said that Stefani agreeing to marry him “saved” his 2020.
Now that the engagement news has broken, sources close to the couple have revealed the special meaning behind the proposal venue.
“Blake built a beautiful chapel for Gwen on his property in Oklahoma and he felt it would be really special to propose there,” a source told the outlet.
“He originally built the chapel for Gwen because she is a very devout Catholic and he wanted to make her feel comfortable with her transition from LA to Oklahoma,” the source said. “Her faith is incredibly important to her and Blake knows that.”
In fact, the chapel has meant so much to Stefani that she has had jewelry made to remind her of it.
“So, he felt that [the chapel] was the perfect place to propose because it has so much meaning to the both of them,” the source continued. “Gwen loves the chapel so much and she even has a necklace with a charm of the chapel that she wears often.”
