Exclusive: JoJo Fletcher Wants to See Consistent ‘Action and Follow-Through’ From ‘The Bachelor’ to Fix Diversity Issues
“I hear he’s an amazing guy. Really looking forward to the diversity not only his season will bring but really looking forward to consistent, continued diversity throughout the franchise,” she told Showbiz Cheat Sheet exclusively.
JoJo Fletcher weighs in on the work ‘The Bachelor’ needs to do to diversify
JoJo feels the franchise could stand to diversify more than just leads.
“I think it’s important to have leads who bring more diversity, but also throughout the entire cast and staff. So I’m hoping this is a fresh start for the franchise. But [Matt James is] a pretty amazing guy and just really looking forward to the season,” she said.
The Bachelor has always received criticism about their lack of diversity, but now more than ever. JoJo is hopeful that the franchise is moving in the right direction after such a passionate calling from fans.
“When they brought it up that in 40 seasons we’ve only had one Black lead, it really strikes a chord with you and it brings the problem to the surface. How has it been like this for so long?” she said, noting that she added her name to the petition to call for more diversity in The Bachelor franchise.
JoJo thinks casting Matt is great, but the franchise has to consistently do the work to make things right.
“Now, it’s going to be about action and follow-through and consistency. So I think we’re on the right track and I’m really looking forward to seeing that,” she said.
What JoJo Fletcher has been up to in quarantine
JoJo and her season winner and fiancé Jordan Rodgers recently moved into a new home together. So they’ve been spending a lot of their time renovating and fixing up their new place–something they both enjoy very much.
“We recently just did a huge DIY project during quarantine,” she shared. “We painted this huge shiplap wall. It had some stains and blemishes and imperfections over time. So we used KILZ Premium Primer and it gave us this awesome surface to apply our paint and then we painted this awesome moody blue/black color, also from KILZ called ‘Kettle Black’ if anyone needs a color like that, but it’s beautiful.”
JoJo recently partnered with KILZ Primer to give one DIYer $5,000 in e-gift cards to tackle a project they’ve had their eye on. The winner will also get to meet JoJo virtually to get her advice on their project. 10 additional winners will receive a $500 e-gift card for their own DIY projects.
