‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’: Sebastian Stan Compares the Disney+ Series to ‘Captain America 2’
Falcon and the Winter Soldier star Sebastian Stan has some good news for Marvel fans who enjoyed Captain America: The Winter Soldier. The actor recently teased that the upcoming Disney+ series has the same tone as The Winter Soldier, a movie that proved to be a turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. With the series set to premiere later this year, here’s a look at everything Stan said about Marvel’s first Phase 4 TV show.
A look at ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
Stan is reprising his role as Bucky, a.k.a. the Winter Soldier, in Marvel’s upcoming series. The actor will star alongside Anthony Mackie, who will become the next Captain America in the MCU.
Marvel has not said much about the show’s plot, but we do know that there will be two Captain Americas. Exactly how Bucky fits into the narrative is yet to be seen, but his relationship with Falcon will be tested with more than one Cap running around.
Falcon and the Winter Soldier was set to premiere on Disney+ this summer. Filming, however, is on hold due to the coronavirus pandemic. Disney has not revealed when the series will premiere, but the studio has pushed back all of its MCU projects by several months.
While the studio has been mum about the show’s major storylines, Stan recently teased that it has a very similar feel to The Winter Soldier.
Stan dishes on ‘Falcon and the Winter Soldier’
Directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, The Winter Soldier was a conspiracy-fueled thriller that featured some heavy-hitting action. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Stan teased that fans can expect the same from Falcon and the Winter Soldier.
“In a lot of ways, it felt like a movie. Again, we’re not finished; we still have some stuff to do. What I loved about it was that, tonally, it was very much in the same world that Captain America: The Winter Soldier was, which was one of my favorite experiences that I’ve ever had, period,” he revealed.
Without revealing any details, the actor says the upcoming series will feature just as much action as the film and will dive deeper into the characters. This is very similar to the movie, but the series has six hours to explore storylines as opposed to only two.
Stan also teased that Falcon and the Winter Soldier will put the characters “in situations that we’ve never been able to put them in before.” He then revealed that they still have some work to do on the project and have not finished filming just yet.
Stan talks about his encounter with Gwyneth Paltrow
In addition to talking about Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Stan also shared a hilarious story about an encounter with his Avengers: Endgame co-star Gwyneth Paltrow.
The two crossed paths during Paris Fashion Week at the Valentino couture show. Stan and Paltrow were included in the same group photo and he approached her after the pic was snapped. Although they were both a part of Endgame, the Falcon and the Winter Soldier star revealed that Paltrow did not recognize him.
“I was like, ‘I don’t know if we really worked together.’ So I guess we got thrown in that group photo,” Stan shared. “I was like, ‘Hey, by the way, it’s Sebastian.’ I think she sort of just gave me this look. I was like, ‘From Avengers, we met…’ and then the picture was taken, I’m not even sure if she [remembered me]. It was just like a weird moment.”
Stan added that he introduced himself to Paltrow three times and that she probably thought he was a “crazy person.”
Endgame featured a slew of characters and was easily one of Marvel’s most ambitious projects to date. Paltrow and Stan both had minor parts in the movie, so it’s not that surprising that she didn’t recognize him.
New fan art shows Anthony Mackie as Captain America
While we wait for new developments, new fan art for Falcon and the Winter Soldier shows how Mackie might look as the new Cap.
The art shows Mackie rocking a new Captain America costume complete with Falcon’s wings. Mackie is also holding Cap’s iconic shield, which Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) gave him in Endgame.
Marvel, of course, has yet to release a good look at Mackie as Cap. Although there will be another version of the character on the show, Mackie is fully expected to appear as Captain America in a future MCU film.
