Fan Reactions to Meghan Markle ‘Snubbing’ the Queen’s Doctors and Choosing Her Own for the Birth of Baby Sussex

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, is only a few short weeks away from giving birth to her first child with Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex. With the arrival of Baby Sussex fast approaching, the royal couple is finalizing everything relating to the baby’s birth including the doctors who will perform the delivery.

Ahead, learn why Markle and Prince Harry are getting criticized for “snubbing” Queen Elizabeth II’s royal doctors in favor of picking their own. Plus, learn what fans have to say about the couple’s decision.

Royal protocol

Per royal protocol, physicians cannot be excluded from the delivery of a royal baby, according to the Daily Mail. Traditionally, Alan Farthing and Guy Thorpe-Beeston, Royal Household gynecologists, have been present at deliveries.

Both Farthing and Thorpe-Beeston attended the births of Prince William and Kate Middleton’s three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis.

Why did the couple turn down royal physicians?

According to the Daily Mail, Markle and Prince Harry snubbed Queen Elizabeth II and her royal doctors by opting to choose their own. According to a Daily Mail source, “Meghan said she doesn’t want the men in suits. She was adamant that she wanted her own people. It did leave a few of us a little baffled.”

Markle nor Prince Harry have commented publicly on their decision to choose their own physician for the birth of their — emphasis on “their” —  child and neither has Buckingham Palace.

Another Daily Mail source commented on the “surprising” decision the couple made.

‘It is slightly surprising. These people [the Queen’s doctors] are the best of the best and when it comes down to it, their role would actually be very limited in the birth itself, assuming all goes to plan.”

Who has the couple chosen to oversee the birth of Baby Susse?

Prince Harry and Markle have chosen an unnamed female physician to lead their delivery team, according to the Daily Mail.

Their chosen team will lead the birth with the royal physicians, Farthing and Thorpe-Beeston, standing by in case their assistance is needed, according to Cosmopolitan UK.

Fan/royal watcher reactions

Fans and royal watchers alike have reacted to the news of Markle and Prince Harry choosing their own delivery team.

One Twitter account, The Royal Fact Checker, noted the similarities between the “snubbing” articles of today and those of the past involving Princess Diana.

“I noted this in a reply to someone else’s tweet, but these new articles about #Meghan”snubbing” the Queen’s doctors & shocking everyone with a modern birth for #BabySussex are nearly rewrites of articles about Diana’s plans for Will’s birth, but at least no bikini shots this time,” The Royal Fact Checker tweeted.

“Stay the h*ll out of Meghan’s uterus #meghanmarkle #BabySussex,” tweeted a fan in reaction to an article published by the Mirror.

“Good for her .. her body her child her decision,” Annabel62 commented on the Mirror’s article about the couple’s decision to use their physicians of their choosing.

“Meghan you accepted the role, now learn your script! This is the British Royal Family not some US cable show,” another person going by the username, Kommitt, commented about the Mirror article.
