Fans Are Freaking Out Over the New ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 5 Trailer
Fans have been eagerly waiting more than a year for the next installment of Better Call Saul. The Breaking Bad spin-off show documents the transformation of lawyer Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk), formerly called Jimmy McGill, as he abandons a traditional law career to defend the worst criminals in society.
The latest trailer just dropped and sent fans into a frenzy over what all the subtle details could mean, plus which beloved Breaking Bad characters will feature this season. Will we finally get to see the worlds of Saul Goodman and Walter White collide in Season 5?
Two ‘Breaking Bad’ characters will appear in ‘Better Call Saul’ Season 5
The newest trailer confirms that two big names from the Breaking Bad universe will have cameos in Better Call Saul’s newest season, which has its two-night premiere on Feb. 23 and 24, 2020. Notorious ex-cartel leader Hector Salamanca (Mark Margolis) will be part of the story along with Walter White’s DEA agent brother-in-law Hank Schrader (Dean Norris).
AMC also confirmed in a tweet that Schrader’s partner Steve Gomez (Steven Michael Quezada) will be reprising his role in the most recent season of the hit show.
The new ‘Better Call Saul’ trailer is a contradiction
There’s something decidedly eerie about the juxtaposition of the new trailer’s upbeat soundtrack coupled with the drama playing out on screen. While the Jim Reeves country song “Welcome to My World” plays cheerfully in the background, the audience watches as Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) seethes, Saul and Kim Wexler (Rhea Seehorn) share a kiss, and Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) breaks someone’s arm without breaking a sweat.
The entire show thrives on exploring the relationship between good and evil, plus how the right path might lie somewhere in between. This trailer is the perfect summary of the message Better Call Saul has been sending all along.
The trailer is subtle yet dramatic
The best thing about the new trailer is that it doesn’t give away any spoilers, but rather combines a series of moments from the newest season to get fans excited about learning the next part of the story. When Season 4 ended, fans finally got to see what they’d been waiting for all along. In the finale, Jimmy McGill finally succumbs to his inevitable destiny and emerges as Saul Goodman, the lawyer we got to know so well on Breaking Bad.
There was nothing predictable about Jimmy’s journey. But because the show is a prequel, every decision he made along the way paved the road of his moral decay. Like Walter White in Breaking Bad, his intentions were good but ultimately, the methods were fatally flawed.
‘Better Call Saul’ will end after Season 6
Showrunners Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould confirmed that the sixth season of Better Call Saul would be the last and may finally overlap with Breaking Bad. Will we see Saul Goodman meet up with Walter White and Jesse Pinkman next season? Will Season 5 really “blow your mind” like Odenkirk promised?
These questions will all be answered in a few short weeks. Catch the Season 5 premiere of Better Call Saul on AMC on Feb. 23, 2020 at 9/8c.
