Fans Defend Kylie Jenner After Tyga Takes Credit For Her Success
Kylie Jenner may not exactly fit the definition of a “self-made” near-billionaire, but someone else has decided to take a good portion of the credit. That someone just so happens to be Jenner’s ex: Tyga. And unsurprisingly, Jenner’s fans have an issue with Tyga’s comments about the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star.
On Aug. 30, 2018, Tyga sat down with Nicki Minaj on her Queen Radio show. This fact alone let us know some shade was bound to be thrown, considering Minaj had recently sparked a feud with Jenner and her current boyfriend, Travis Scott. In case you didn’t hear, Minaj wasn’t happy when Scott’s album, Astroworld, took the No. 1 spot on the Billboard chart ahead of her own album, Queen.
She tweeted her frustrations, claiming Jenner used her daughter, Stormi, to drive Scott’s success. “I put my blood sweat & tears in writing a dope album only for Travis Scott to have Kylie Jenner post a tour pass telling ppl to come see her & Stormi. lol. Im actually laughing,” Minaj wrote. “#Queen broke the record of being number 1 in 86 countries. Thank Jesus & thank you to my fans.”
So when Tyga sat down with Minaj, he didn’t hold back his true feelings. While he did acknowledge Jenner’s fame due to her family’s status, he thinks he influenced her rise to the top. “She always had a platform and she was always destined to be what she was going to be regardless, but, when I stepped in, there was a lot of codes being taught,” Tyga claimed. “It was like, you could do this, you should start this, you should start doing your hair like this.”
He even said, “You should adapt because you need black people to f*ck with you. You need culture.”
Of course, he couldn’t leave Kylie’s success with her beauty line, Kylie Cosmetics, out of the conversation. In fact, he claims to have had something to do with that, too. “I don’t need to go online and tell people I did this and I’m the one helping her coming up with these colors and names on her … lip line,” he said. “It was a lot of stuff.”
Although Jenner has yet to respond, we wouldn’t be surprised if her older sister, Kim Kardashian, clapped back on Twitter. Fans have already taken to social media to defend Jenner, calling out Tyga’s ridiculous claims.
One fan tweeted, “TYGA thinks he helped put KYLIE JENNER on the map LOL THIS IS THE FUNNIEST NEWS I’VE EVER SEEN. i needed a good laugh before bed wow … Imagine having $5 and thinking ur responsible for making someone a billionaire. men are delusional.”
“Wow okay, so this is the best thing I’ve ever heard,” another Twitter user wrote. “Did anyone really even know who Tyga was before he got with Kylie??? I knew he had that one song ‘Rack City’ but that is all.”
Others pointed out Tyga’s comments on advising Jenner’s cultural appropriation. “When Tyga said he built Kylie Jenner into the black cultural appropriator she is today … I died,” wrote one Twitter user.
Jenner’s fans also pointed out how his interview is more of a reflection of himself than Jenner. One fan put it perfectly: “Something about this interview with him trying to take responsibility for her success along with the fact that she was a child when they started dating tells me a lot more about Tyga and Nicki than Kylie.”
