Fans React to ‘GMA’ Star Michael Strahan’s April Fool’s Joke on Closing His Signature Tooth Gap

Former New York Giant Michael Strahan gets props for a memorable April Fool’s prank. After posting a video from his dentist’s chair, Strahan had many of his followers fooled on getting his signature tooth gap closed. Fans shared mixed reviews on the drastic move, yet the Good Morning America star just revealed it was all a joke for the humorous holiday.

Michael Strahan posted an April Fool’s setup

On March 30, Strahan shared a video on Instagram showing a conversation with his dentist on the decision to close his trademark tooth gap.

“If I go home and say I’m gonna do it, it’ll be don’t do it,” Strahan told his dentist in the video. “If I post, it’ll be don’t do it, if I talk to my friends, it’ll be don’t do it, if I talk to my business partner, he’ll be like, don’t do it. But, I gotta do what I want to do for myself now.”

After revealing the finished product with a big smile, Strahan received mixed reviews from fans. Comments ranged from “Handsome before, handsome now! Do what makes you feel good about you,” to “Nooooooooooooo😍 I luv the gap it’s u.”

Gap lovers can now breathe a collective sigh of relief, where Strahan just announced he had us all fooled.

The ‘GMA’ star revealed the gap is back

Strahan updated his followers on April 1, wearing a mask while noting the speculation on his dental decision. The GMA star was amazed by the onslaught of feedback he received on the big change.

“I know a lot of you are wondering, oh, it’s gotta be an April Fool’s joke,” Strahan said in his video, still wearing a mask. “I appreciate all the comments — I was surprised, to be honest with you, at how many people were like, ‘No, don’t get rid of the gap! It’s your signature!’ I didn’t know so many people really cared.”

Thanking his followers for their comments, Strahan was happy to be a role model for those with spacial smiles.

“I appreciate all the love for the gap,” the former NFL star remarked. “I’ve had it for almost 50 years now, and a lot of people out there would always say, ‘Yeah you make me feel good about rocking mine.’ I know it was a shocker to see it gone.” 

Then came the big reveal. “So, I just wanted to say,” Strahan began before pulling down his mask [drumroll please], “April Fool’s! Come on, man! The gap is here to stay—for a little while. It’s not going anywhere anytime soon.”

Fans and friends are relieved to see Michael Strahan’s signature gap

Comments streamed in after the Strahan broke the news, where celebrities and even his ABC colleagues expressed there relief.

“Thank goodness,” Heidi Klum wrote. “That was a good one,” NFL star Sterling Shepard commented.

“Now I can say how I really feel. Yes of course they are your teeth lol but yes even I was a little misty in the eye at the thought,” ABC news correspondent Steve Osunsami admitted. “OMG you totally got me Michael,” GMA co-host Amy Robach posted.

Fans were quick to post their joy at the gap being back where it belongs.

“Glad u are staying in the gap toothed family with us fellow gap toothers,” a follower wrote. “Thank god!!! I was heartbroken,” another commented. “Theeeee BEST JOKE everrrrrrrrrr!!!!! We love your gap!!!!” a fan posted.

“This makes me happy i was ready to unfollow you‼️ jkjk the gap makes you YOU❣,” another remarked.

Apparently, one opinion matters more than anyone else’s to Strahan. “My momma likes it, so there you go, for you momma!” he said.
