Fans React to Surprise ‘Justice League’ Snyder Cut Teaser
For years, fans have been waiting to see Zack Snyder’s famed version of the 2017 DC superhero film, Justice League. The director is now finally giving fans a sneak peek of the Snyder Cut with a surprise teaser he shared on social media.
What is the Snyder Cut of ‘Justice League’?
In 2017, just as Snyder was finishing his film, Justice League, he was forced to leave work due to a major family tragedy. His daughter, Autumn Snyder, passed away, so the director took himself off of the project to grieve with his family.
The film was left unfinished, so Warner Bros. hired Avengers director Joss Whedon to complete the movie. Whedon reimagined the movie in his own way and added numerous CGI effects and reshoots that ultimately didn’t work.
Justice League was released in Nov. 2017 and received harsh fan reviews, including many that pointed out how bad Henry Cavill’s CGI-altered Superman face looked. Fans demanded to see Snyder’s original vision for the film, resulting in the hashtag #ReleaseTheSnyderCut.
On the movie’s two-year anniversary, Justice League stars Gal Gadot and Ben Affleck also shared the hashtag on their social media pages. Snyder retweeted them, sending fans into a frenzy of speculation about his version and when it would be released.
Snyder confirmed his cut will be on HBO Max
After years of waiting, fans finally got the confirmation they were looking for when Snyder tweeted a poster revealing Justice League would be on HBO’s new streaming service, HBO Max, in 2021.
In May, Snyder told The Hollywood Reporter that Warner Bros. is investing $20 million into his version of Justice League, which may feature new characters, and bring the villain, Darkseid into the mix.
“It will be an entirely new thing,” Snyder said. “Especially talking to those who have seen the released movie, a new experience apart from that movie. You probably saw one-fourth of what I did.”
The director surprised fans with a new ‘Justice League’ teaser
On June 18, Snyder surprised fans when he dropped a Snyder cut Justice League teaser on Twitter. The 34-second video clip features Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman staring at an ancient painting of a figure that appears to be Darkseid, as Jesse Eisenberg’s Lex Luthor narrates.
“The bell’s already been rung,” Lex is heard saying. “And they’ve heard it. But in the dark, among the stars, ding-dong, the God is dead.”
The clip then cuts to the flashback scene of Justice League in which the origin of the Motherboxes is explained. Except, in this version, Darkseid is standing the place of Steppenwolf.
Upon seeing the teaser, fans were thrilled. And many shared their excitement on Twitter.
“Omg we’ve waited so long for this!” one fan tweeted. “It’s finally happening!”
“Epic!!!! Can’t wait for to see the Real Justice League movie as it was meant to be seen!!!” another fan tweeted. “If only we could get part 2 after…”
Jason Momoa, who plays Aquaman in the film, shared the teaser on his Instagram page 20 minutes before Snyder. “The best part about being Aquaman is that Zack Snyder created me so I get to see all this awesome sh*t before anyone,” Mamoa wrote in the caption. “Here’s a first ever peek at Zack Snyder‘s Justice League.”
Hopefully, as 2021 nears, Snyder will continue to gift fans with more teasers for the movie.
