The final season of Vikings is shaping up to be more than a little shocking. The latest episode held a truly sad moment that fans weren’t ready for. Read on to learn how people are really reacting to episode 4 of the hit History series. There are spoilers ahead.

Lagertha (Katheryn Winnick), who has once again picked up her sword to fight again, gets the people of her small village to fight when the bandits come. Some children are used as scouts to set off signals, and some are killed by the bandits in the process. Thanks to Lagertha planning ahead, the bandits retreat, but not before a terrible moment happens first.

Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) and Torvi’s (Georgia Hirst) young son, Hali (Ryan Henson), comes out before the bandits truly leave completely. As he’s holding a sword, the bandit leader leads his horse towards the boy and cuts him down. His tragic death was more than a little shocking.

Reddit users can’t stop discussing the situation. “It p***** me off because he basically killed himself,” a Reddit user wrote. “He ran out and was saying ‘look at me look at me’ when he could have just waited a few more seconds. I understand he’s a little boy and wanted to pretend that he helped scare them off but it was senseless.”

“I saw it as a Ragnar impetuous thing,” another user said. “At least he’ll get to hang out with his grandad in Valhalla.”

Some don’t blame the child at all for his behavior. “It’s exactly what a child his age would do after watching that..he was eyeing up swords earlier in the episode,” a Reddit user thoroughly explained. “Kids copy adults/parents..most especially the son of Bjorn.”

King Bjorn Ironside may soon be king of Norway

Things are moving right along for Bjorn. Last week he was defeated, this week he is facing a new type of future. King Olaf (Steven Berkoff) wants to elect a king of all Norway, and he puts Bjorn forth as the top contender. Men of importance still need to vote Bjorn in, but things are certainly looking up for Bjorn, at least until he realizes his son has been killed.

Some fans think King Olaf has evil intentions and that he plans to kill all of them at once. “I really hope Bjorn realizes that Olaf is just corralling all the leaders to murder them and seize ultimate power uncontested … But Bjorn’s a dumb s***, so he probably will not,” a Reddit user said.

Harald (Peter Franzen) is still a prisoner of Olaf’s and some fans think it’s all part of his overall plan. “I think Olaf took him to heal him after he was wounded because he formed his plan back then already… I think the reason why he kept him alive might be to look trustworthy and to lure Bjorn into the situation he is in now… and it seems to me Olaf wants to invite all Jarls over to take them all out in one swing to seize power over the whole country.”

Ivar the Boneless plays sides

Ivar (Alex Høgh Andersen) is definitely a step ahead of Prince Oleg (Danila Kozlovsky). He’s taking his time to bond with Prince Igor (Oran Glynn O’Donovan). Meanwhile, Prince Dir (Lenn Kudrjawizki), who is kept in a cage, tells Ivar he can have whatever he wants if he will only set him free, but Ivar doesn’t appear to be at all tempted.

“Glad to see Ivar back on track,” a Reddit user said. “The Rus plot has so many great opportunities. Ivar being manipulative using Igor, betraying Oleg and possibly Dir afterwards.”

Fans have predictions about what’s to come from Ivar’s scheming. “I think Ivar will kill Oleg most probably by poisoning,” someone noted. “The little boy will become a puppet king and be used by him to conquer Kattegat.”

Vikings season 6 is shaping up to be an excellent final season.
