Priyanka Chopra’s fans always love her updates on Instagram — whether she’s gushing about husband Nick Jonas or showing off a gorgeous red carpet look or giving an update on her latest project. Her newest Instagram post, however, is coming under fire, as the actress posted a selfie that fans didn’t find too cool. Naturally, some people had plenty to say about Chopra’s pic.
Chopra wears a respirator mask in her latest pic
In Chopra’s Instagram post on Nov. 4, the actress sported a respirator mask and explained why in her caption.
She wrote: “Shoot days for #thewhitetiger. It’s so hard to shoot here right now that I can’t even imagine what it must be like to live here under these conditions. We r blessed with air purifiers and masks. Pray for the homeless. Be safe everyone. #airpollution #delhipollution #weneedsolutions #righttobreathe.”
Delhi, where Chopra is on location, is experiencing record smog, forcing the declaration of a public health emergency, CNN reports. Delhi’s chief minister described the pollution as “unbearable.”
Chopra faced backlash from critics
Many of Chopra’s followers took aim at the actress, commenting on her post and calling her out for being a hypocrite since she smokes and set off polluting fireworks at her wedding.
One commenter wrote: “There were lot of fireworks after your marriage in Jodhpur. Please don’t just spread awareness by posting content online. Practice environmental friendly habits.”
Another noted: “Still less harmful than the cigarette you smoked,” referencing a summer photo showing the actress smoking a cigarette with husband Jonas.
One critic pointed out: “Yes you’re correct… Smoking is a choice but she shouldn’t spread awareness about the air pollution when she herself is the culprit in this situation… What about the fireworks in which the sky above was lit in one of her wedding parties… Yet she was doing the drama of asthma on the festive occasion of diwali.”
She received some support as well
Not everyone blasted the actress, however, as some found no fault in her post. One commenter noted: “I agree with respect to smoking and fire crackers. But is she speaking about fire crackers? Or is she blaming anyone in this post? No. She isn’t. By posting this she is actually helping out by turning people towards this and people might really come forward to help. When she is not talking about firecrackers and bringing this problem out? How good is it to talk about her personal habits instead of supporting what she is doing?”
Another commenter stood up for Chopra, writing: “And you ask what is she doing to help? This, putting this topic on the table to move people around it. Using her platform with 46.1 million followers to give the attention this situation needs, and calling the persons that really can make the change.”
