Fans Still Aren’t Over Farrah Abraham’s New Year’s Eve Instagram Posts From Last Year

When it comes to partying hard and recording it all for social media, few do it better than Farrah Abraham. Fans remember first seeing her during her time on 16 and Pregnant, but she attained the most fame thanks to MTV’s Teen Mom. We may not see Farrah on the show anymore, but that doesn’t mean she’s stayed out of the spotlight throughout the year. And we can’t forget the over-the-top way she spent her last New Year’s Eve ringing in 2018, either. Here’s what went down in Farrah’s world.

Farrah took a trip to Hong Kong with her daughter, Sophia

We’re not sure if Farrah will be in the U.S. for New Year’s Eve this year, but last year, she was all the way across the world in Hong Kong. Multiple posts on Instagram and Twitter showed the star with her daughter, Sophia, in the big city celebrating. And from the looks of it, it appears she arrived in China on Dec. 28 — just in time to celebrate. One of her first posts depicts her with her daughter drinking tea and having a few teatime snacks after enjoying the country’s scenery.

As for the rest of the mother-daughter duo’s trip, it looked like quite the experience. Farrah went on to post more photos and videos of her experiences, including one of people bungee jumping from Macau Tower and another of a beautiful fireworks display lighting up the Hong Kong skies when the clock struck midnight. As far as their amenities were concerned, it was nothing but the best for the Abraham family, too. Even her initial first-class flight of 2018 was completely over the top with pink seats.

She received serious backlash for the social media posts, however

Did fans love Farrah’s posts about Hong Kong, or were they not into the way the famous mom rang in the New Year? It seems there were a lot of mixed reviews — and the backlash from a few of her followers was severe.

While many of her followers appreciated her “normal” attitude in the bungee jumping video, one of her followers wasn’t so impressed. They commented, “yes she makes sure Sophia has all she needs but she has brainwashed her to be a cold evil spoiled brat.” And when Farrah announced her Hong Kong trip to Twitter, it was met with similar commentary. “Stay there. Don’t come back,” one Twitter user tweeted back to her, Pop Culture reports. And another added, “How about you spend your New Year with your Daughter instead of always ‘going away for business.’ Poor kid.” Clearly they didn’t realize that Sophia was by Farrah’s side the entire time.

She also memorializes a more somber aspect of her life during this time of year

These last couple of days have been some of the best days in my life , today is the 10th Anniversary of Sophia’s Father, Derek Underwood, the love of my life’s car accident 12/28/2008 that changed my life forever. Seeing Sophia spend the night at her dads parents house on the 10th anniversary fills me with joy. I can't believe I even lived to see this day as I never thought I would get through the sadness, suicidal thoughts , depression, anxiety and hardships of loosing someone I loved this much who I thought I would be with today, today marks a new decade with the family and loved ones who held through this decade and now were filled with love, gratefulness, and confidence that we are blessed with the best angel of Derek watching over us,this new decade, new year will be one of our best and I'm so thankful and feeling so happy Thank you Derek for watching over us all & showing me to live my best life with our daughter like It could be our last ❤️ so much love

All fun and games (and public backlash) aside, before New Year’s Eve every year, Farrah and Sophia take time to memorialize Sophia’s father, Derek Underwood. Fans of Teen Mom may remember when Farrah spoke about Derek’s passing on the show. Sadly, Derek died in a car accident during Farrah’s pregnancy.

We’re not sure what the mother-daughter duo are getting up to for the holiday celebration this year, but Farrah has already released her annual statement about Derek to Instagram. She noted on the Dec. 28 that “today is the 10th Anniversary of Sophia’s Father, Derek Underwood, the love of my life’s car accident 12/28/2008 that changed my life forever. I can’t believe I even lived to see this day as I never thought I would get through the sadness, suicidal thoughts , depression, anxiety and hardships ….”

Even without Derek by her side, Farrah’s hopeful for a great future and year with Sophia. She added that “this new decade, new year will be one of our best and I’m so thankful and feeling so happy Thank you Derek for watching over us all & showing me to live my best life with our daughter like It could be our last.”
