Fans Think They Cracked ‘American Horror Story’ Season 10’s Theme, and It’s Going To Be Legend-ary
American Horror Story has transcended out of the typical box that anything “horror” is usually put into. It’s been nominated for Emmys, it’s amassed a huge fanbase, and the actors have become their own entities to fawn over, since they play different characters every season.
Nine seasons down and one more season for sure confirmed, fans are already taking to the internet to hunt down clues for what the next theme will be. We’ve had haunted houses, asylums, and witches (twice). But these fans are eagled-eyed and have some solid guesses.
Fans of ‘American Horror Story’ are pretty sure Season 10 is going to deal with Urban Legends
The biggest clues come from Ryan Murphy himself; every year he makes sure to put in hints for the next season in the current one. Murphy told TV Guide at the 100 episode celebration for AHS that “There will be probably a big one in Episode 8.” Fans clung to what one new character, Stacey the journalist, said in her first scene. “Back in the ‘70s, all anyone cared about was Bigfoot and aliens, the Loch Ness Monster.”
On the American Horror Story reddit, user ohstephen posted a screenshot from the Instagram account @thehorrorstory that connected these two, jumping to the conclusion of urban legends as the new theme.
In response, user poreygon suggested that “The general [sic] consensus is cryptids, yeah. It could be a red herring though!” Cryptids are beings or animals that only exist because someone has said they do, not because anyone has physical or visual evidence. Think of werewolves, mermaids, the like.
Others think that this could lead to aliens
Even though Asylum dealt with aliens, a bigger part of that season revolved around Catholicism, demons, and a lot of other messed up stuff. To keep with the urban legend theme, the user regretchen wants to see cryptids but through the lense of ghost hunters. “My new theory is paranormal investigators. Montana talks about it and it could cover cryptids, ghosts, aliens, etc.”
User niceandy noted some great evidence to back up the alien theory. “I think, given the ‘drifting in space’ comments by Jonas, and the alien mention, and that AHS lately has been taking cues from cultural happenings, it’ll be something to do with Area 51.”
Ryan Murphy did reveal that he has his themes are narrowed down to two ideas
As of Oct. 28, Murphy hadn’t narrowed in on just one theme. “I decide always on Halloween day, and I have two ideas that I’m going back and forth with, so I don’t know which one is going to win,” he said at the 100 episode event, according to Hollywood Life.
How could episode 8 hint at the upcoming theme, though, if he still wasn’t set on one? User Supreme64 suggested that they might be “two very similar themes.” Whatever is chosen, it’ll probably be spooky, and might include Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters again. We’ll have to wait and see.
