5 Major Reasons ‘Keeping Up with the Kardashians’ Is Ending
Keeping Up with the Kardashians is coming to an end and fans are still grappling with the idea. Rumors about the famous family turning to streaming services are floating around, giving fans some hope that they’ll be able to stay up to date with the KarJenners.
As for why the family is saying goodbye to their reality show after 14 years, there are five contributing factors.
1. Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West are experiencing extreme marital struggles that Kim prefers to keep off camera
The West family’s marital issues are no secret to fans. Both Kim and Kanye have spoken openly about Kanye’s bipolar disorder.
In recent months, rumors about Kanye being in the midst of a tense bipolar episode have intensified due to his seemingly erratic behavior and public breakdowns.
TMZ reports that Kim, despite sharing her life on KUWTK for 14 years, is refusing to film anything involving Kanye. Kim’s commitment is to their family and Kanye’s well-being, whether they remain married or not.
The couple recently went on a getaway with hopes of rekindling their marriage. It’s unclear if they are continuing to work on their marriage.
2. Several members of the KarJenner clan are not interested in filming
Rob Kardashian has not made sporadic appearances on the show recently. He is transparent about his insecurities with his weight and addressing his depression. Kim admits that Rob’s moods impacts his decision to film, telling Andy Cohen on Watch What Happens Live:
“He has his moods. Sometimes he’s like, ‘Look, I didn’t sign up for this’ and then he’s like, ‘I’m cool to do it,'” she says.
Kourtney Kardashian recently decided to stop filming altogether to focus on her business and children. Her sisters have been complaining about her lack of interest in filming.
Both Kendall and Kylie have minimal roles on the show. Kendall’s modeling career is her main focus, while Kylie’s attention is on her daughter Stormi and her cosmetics empire.
3. The KarJenner’s have various streams of income outside of the reality show
The family has become a dynasty of sorts. In addition to the various spinoff shows throughout the years, they all have their own businesses.
Kim and Kylie are focusing on building businesses in the beauty industry, with multiple makeup and skincare lines and partnerships. The KarJenner sisters have also collaborated on fashion lines and fragrance lines. Kim’s SKIMS line recently celebrated its one-year anniversary.
4. Filming takes up too much time
KUWTK films nearly year-round. While the family are used to having cameras around, it’s one of the reasons some family members have grown tired of the show.
Kourtney is the most vocal about the overwhelming pressure of filming every aspect of her life. In an interview with Vogue Arabia, the eldest Kardashian sibling elaborates on her decision to quit the show.
“I have been filming the show non-stop for 14 years,” she explains. “I was feeling unfulfilled and it became a toxic environment for me to continue to have it occupy as much of my life as it was.”
She continues: “Privacy is something I have come to value and finding that balance of private moments with being on a reality show is hard.”
5. The KarJenner’s continue expanding their families
With the exception of Kendall, all of the KarJenner siblings are parents. And while the parents have no problem filming, they yearn for a certain level of privacy for their children in an already public life.
Kim and Kylie are especially protective of their children, having them film minimally. Kanye also makes it known that he’s no fan of the reality television world.
